Johansson Assigned From Albany, Sarich Returns As Lynx Prepare For Gladiators

January 7, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Augusta Lynx News Release

The Augusta Lynx and Gwinnett Gladiators will battle tonight in the second of three consecutive meetings between the two clubs at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center at 7:35 pm.

Augusta comes off a 4-3 victory last Saturday night at home, paced to the win on the strength of Todd Bennett's two power play goals and three assists from Jamie Johnson. They'll try to make it two in a row against Gwinnett tonight, and come into the game 3-1-1 in their last five games, and 4-for-5 (80%) on the power play in their last two contests.

The team announced today that center Eric Johansson was assigned to the team by the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League. The 23 year-old Edmonton, Alberta native was originally drafted by the Minnesota Wild in 2000, but was re-selected by the New Jersey Devils in round six, #187 overall, of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. Spending the past two seasons with Albany, Johansson has accumulated 14 goals and 42 points with the team.

Augusta also announced they have activated defenseman Rod Sarich off the injured reserve list in time for tonight's game as well. Sarich has two goals and four points in 15 games with the Lynx this season.

Gwinnett, meanwhile, is struggling over the last five games, going 1-4-0. Over that span, only Kevin Truelson has an even rating, every other member of the team sits in the minus column. The Gladiators are also averaging just over two goals per game in that time, dropping their league-leading goals for to 3.59 per game. Meanwhile, goaltenders Adam Berkhoel and T.J. Aceti remain on the IR, with the workload falling to rookie Sean Fields. Fields took the loss against the Lynx last week, making 17 saves in the contest to drop his record to 6-5-0 since joining the team mid-season.

Tonight's game will face off at 7:35 pm, with radio coverage starting with the pre-game show one half-hour before game time on NEWSTALKSPORTS 1630. Tickets are still available for the game through the Lynx office at (706) 724-4ICE, through all TicketMaster locations, or on line at www.TicketMaster.com.
