Garlick, Perkins Power Dodgers Past New Orleans

Metairie, La. - Kyle Garlick and Cameron Perkins combined for five home runs to help send the Oklahoma City Dodgers to an 11-9 win in 11 innings over the New Orleans Baby Cakes during a slugfest Sunday afternoon at the Shrine on Airline.

Garlick finished the day 4-for-6 and hit two-run homers in the first, third, and 11th innings. He became the seventh player during OKC's modern PCL era (since 1998) to hit three home runs in one game, as well as the first since Matt Duffy on June 9, 2014 against Salt Lake and the first to do it on the road since 2005.

It was Garlick's sixth career multi-homer game and second career three-homer game, as he also went deep three times April 18, 2016 for High-A Rancho Cucamonga at Lancaster. He also had six RBI in that contest.

For Perkins, he hit a game-tying solo home run in the ninth inning and went back-to-back with Garlick in the 11th inning, notching his first two home runs of the season. It was Perkins' first career multi-homer game in his 758th game as a professional.

Sunday's game saw the Dodgers go from ahead by five runs to down by one run and then having to hold on with the tying run at the plate to end the game, as the Dodgers won in extra innings for the second straight day.

Entering Sunday's game, New Orleans starting pitcher Hector Noesi had allowed four runs over 28 innings throughout the season, with all four runs scoring on solo home runs. But the Dodgers were able to get Noesi for a season-high five runs and season-high seven hits, including three runs in the first inning.

The Dodgers (10-19) raced out to the first inning lead with four hits in the frame, including three for extra bases. Shane Peterson doubled with one out and scored two batters later on a RBI double by Edwin RÃ-os. On the very next pitch, Garlick sent a two-run homer out to left field.

The score remained 3-0 until Garlick came up to bat in the third inning. With a runner on and two outs, he sent another deep fly ball to left field for his second two-run blast of the day.

Through the first four innings, Daniel Corcino did not allow a run and had given up just one hit - an infield single. But New Orleans (16-14) scored twice in the fifth inning with two outs. Harold Ramirez hit a solo home run, and following a walk, Austin Dean hit a RBI double, ending Corcino's day and cutting the Dodgers' lead to 5-2.

Still trailing by three in the seventh inning, each of the first three New Orleans hitters reached base, including a RBI single by Dean. Matt Snyder came up next and hit a go-ahead, three-run homer to right field, as New Orleans erased a five-run deficit for the second straight game.

The Dodgers still trailed, 6-5, entering the ninth inning. With one out, Perkins stroked the first pitch of his at-bat against R.J. Alvarez to center field for his first home run of the season.

After New Orleans left the winning run at third base to end the ninth inning, each team manufactured a run in the 10th inning. The Dodgers scored on a ground ball double play, and Yadiel Rivera evened things up with a sacrifice fly.

Starting off the 11th inning, Will Smith smoked a RBI single to left-center field scoring Peterson, who started the inning at second base.

Two batters later, Garlick came up and sent a line drive to deep right field that barely eclipsed the glove of Monte Harrison as well as the fence. After some initial confusion, the umpiring crew signaled the result of the play was a home run.

Perkins then followed with a blast to left-center field, as OKC hit back-to-back home runs for the second time this season.

Leading, 11-7, Josh Sborz retired the first two batters of the home half of the inning before New Orleans made some noise. JT Riddle kept the game alive with a RBI double, and Dean followed with a RBI single.

With the tying run at the plate, Sborz caught Snyder looking at strike three to wrap up the victory. Sborz (1-1) pitched the final two innings, taking home the win, and although he allowed three runs, only one run was earned.

Tommy Eveld (0-3) allowed five runs over 1.2 innings in extras and was saddled with the loss.

The Dodgers have won back-to-back games for the just the third time this season and for the first time since April 15-16. The Dodgers finish their series in New Orleans Monday night at 6:30 p.m. looking for their first three-game winning streak of 2019.
