Garlick's Three Home Runs Sink Baby Cakes
May 5, 2019 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
Kyle Garlick hit three home runs and Cam Perkins added two, including a game-tying shot in the top of the ninth, powering the Oklahoma City Dodgers to a wild 11-9 win over the New Orleans Baby Cakes on Sunday afternoon.
Garlick finished with six RBI by hitting two-run homers in the first, third, and 11th innings. He became the first Oklahoma City player since 2014 to hit three home runs in a game.
The biggest blow was provided by Perkins, however. After the Baby Cakes erased a 5-0 deficit with a four-run seventh inning, reigning Pacific Coast League saves leader R.J. Alvarez was summoned from the bullpen to preserve a 6-5 lead. But Perkins connected for his first home run of the season to straightaway center field to tie the score and force extra innings for the second day in a row.
Both teams plated runs in the 10th inning before the Dodgers put up four against Tommy Eveld in the 11th. Will Smith laced an RBI single to give Oklahoma City an 8-7 cushion, and Garlick and Perkins followed with back-to-back home runs.
JT Riddle delievered an RBI double in the bottom of the 11th and scored on Austin Dean's single which brought the tying run to the plate, but Snyder struck out looking to end the game.
Dean finished with three hits and three RBI, and Harold Ramirez clubbed his fourth home run of the campaign to get the Baby Cakes' scoring started in the fifth inning.
Eveld (0-3) was charged with five runs - three earned - in 1 2/3 innings of relief to take the loss. Starter Hector Noesi, who entered the day having allowed just four runs in his first five starts, surrendered five runs in six innings on Sunday.
Josh Sborz (1-1) worked the final two innings to nab the win for the Dodgers, who have won the last two games after dropping 13 of their previous 15.
The Baby Cakes wrap up the homestand in the finale of the four-game set against Oklahoma City on Monday at 6:30 p.m.
