May 5, 2019 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

Omaha center fielder Bubba Starling collected three hits in three at-bats and shortstop Humberto Arteaga extended his hit streak to seven, however Iowa starting pitcher Duane Underwood Jr. tossed a quality outing and allowed just one unearned run as the Cubs topped the Storm Chasers 6-1 on Saturday evening in front of a crowd of 7,593 fans at Werner Park.

Underwood Jr (6.1 IP, 8 H, R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 6 K) scattered eight hits and yielded a lone unearned run in his six-plus frames to earn the victory, with relievers Carl Edwards Jr. (1.1 IP) and James Norwood (1.1 IP) combined for 2.2 innings. Royals lefty Brian Flynn (4.0 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 K) suffered the defeat as part of his Major League Rehab Assignment with Omaha.

Iowa 1B Trent Giambrone slapped an RBI double to the left field wall before coming across on a wild pitch to put the Cubs ahead 2-0. Omaha immediately halved that margin in the bottom of the frame by taking advantage of an Iowa error, however the Cubs struck right back with another two-spot in the fifth courtesy of 2B Addison Russell 's sacrifice fly and LF Johnny Field's RBI single to increase the advantage to 4-1. The Cubs would later add single tallies in the sixth and eight frames as well.

Starling (3-3, RBI) paced the Storm Chasers order with his three knocks, while DH Erick Mejia also posted a multi-hit effort. Iowa LF Donnie Dewees (3-5, R) and 3B Phillip Evans (3-5, R, 2B, RBI) each tallied three knocks to lead their side, with Giambrone (2-3, R, 2 2B, RBI, 2 BB), CF Ian Happ (2-3, RBI) and SS Dixon Machado (2-4, R, HR, RBI) all adding two knocks apiece. Arteaga during his seven-game hit streak owns a .313 average (10-32), adding six runs, one double, one triple and four RBI.

Omaha and Iowa are set to continue their four-game set in a Sunday matinee, with first pitch scheduled for 2:05pm CT. The Storm Chasers are anticipated to give the nod to RHP Kyle Zimmer (1-1, 9.90), while the I-Cubs are expected to give the nod to RHP Matt Swarmer (2-3, 4.67).

Tickets for that game and all remaining Storm Chasers home contests can be purchased online at www.omahastormchasers.com, or by calling the Werner Park Ticket Office from noon until 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday at (402) 738-5100.
