'Gades Hand out Team Awards

Richmond, VA – The Richmond Renegades handed out team awards for the 2002-'03 season at their annual booster club banquet Sunday. Five of the seven awards were determined by player vote and two were selected by the booster club.

Brad Church was voted the ‘Gades Most Valuable Player by his teammates. Church, the ‘Gades captain, has 29 goals, 70 points, and 107 PIM in 60 games. He leads the club in goals and is second in points.

Lars Pettersen was selected Best Offensive Player. Pettersen leads the club with 75 points in 61 games. He is second in goals with 24.

Peter Hogan was voted Best Defensive Player. Recently returned from a call-up to Cleveland of the AHL, Hogan has a career high eight goals this season.

Rookie forward Leon Hayward was chosen as Most Improved Offensive Player by his teammates. Hayward is tied for the ECHL lead in shorthanded goals by a rookie (four).

First year defenseman Ian Turner was voted Most Improved Defensive Player. Turner has 11 points in 54 games.

The booster club selected Hayward as their Favorite Offensive Player and rookie defenseman Jon Zion as their Favorite Defensive Player.

The Renegades have two home games left this season: Saturday, March 29 vs. Charlotte at 7:35, and Sunday, March 30 vs. Roanoke at 5:05. For more information please call the ‘Gades office at 643-7825.
