Homestand Ends on Positive Note

March 24, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Fresno Falcons News Release

The Fresno Falcons played the final two games of a five-game home stand this past Friday and Saturday coming away with a victory in the latter to snap an eight-game winless slide.

The Falcons fell to the Anchorage Aces on Friday, 4-2, after giving up the game-winning goal and an empty net tally in the game's final minute. The defeat kept Fresno winless through the first four games of the home stand and marked the eighth straight game during which they failed to generate more than two goals.

Fresno's offense awoke from a three-week slumber on Saturday by beating the San Diego Gulls, 6-2. Scott Borders led the way with his second hat trick of the season as the club captured its first victory since March 2.

The defeat on Friday assured the Falcons that they would finish the season in fourth place, where they have a record of 31-27-8 and 70 points entering this week.

FIRST ROUND MATCH-UP VS. IDAHO IS SET

Fresno's victory on Saturday against the Gulls helped the Idaho Steelheads clinch first place in the league. The stage is now set for a re-match between last season's Taylor Cup Finalists in the first round of this year's Taylor Cup Playoffs. The best-of-seven series will begin on April 11 and 12 in Boise with Games One and Two at the Bank of America Centre. The Falcons will host Games Three and Four and, if necessary, Game Five, before the series would return to Idaho for a Game Six and Seven.

ICE DOGS AND CONDORS ON THE HORIZON

The Falcons have two games this coming week on Friday and Saturday. Friday' s tilt is at Long Beach against the Ice Dogs. All of the live play-by-play action can be heard on 103.1 FM, The Mountain Cat, beginning at 7:20 p.m. with the Mail Boxes, Etc. Pre-game Show. Saturday's battle versus the Bakersfield Condors at Centennial Garden gets underway with the pre-game show at 6:50 p.m.

PRACTICE SCHEDULE

Fresno will practice Monday through Thursday at Gateway Ice Center beginning at 10 a.m. each day before heading to Long Beach on Thursday afternoon.
