Pee Dee Pride Weekly
March 24, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Myrtle Beach Thunderboltz News Release
LAST WEEK: The Pride split their two games last week, defeating Peoria on Friday before falling against Columbia on Saturday. Entering the final week of the regular season, Pee Dee is 38-25-5 for 81 points with four games remaining. They are tied with Florida (3 games left) for third place in the Southeast Division. If the two teams finished tied for third, the Pride would win the tiebreaker by virtue of having more overall wins than the Everblades. Pee Dee trails second-place South Carolina (2 games remaining) by seven points.
Friday, March 21 v. Peoria PRIDE 3 Rivermen 2
Peoria dominated the first period, but only took a 1-0 lead to the first intermission, as Pride goaltender Ron Vogel made 11 saves in the opening 20 minutes. Just 29 seconds into the second period, Mike Glumac tied the game at 1 on his 35th goal of the season. It stayed that way until 5:07 remained in regulation, when the Rivermen's Brett DeCecco beat Vogel. Pee Dee was not done though, as Glumac tallied his second of the night just 1:07 later to tie it up, and Greg Schmidt tipped home a Ryan Knox shot 24 seconds after Glumac's goal to give the Pride their ninth straight win on home ice.
Saturday, March 22 v. Columbia Inferno 3 PRIDE 1
Pee Dee's nine-game home winning streak came to end at the hands of Columbia. The Inferno ended the season series between the two teams winning each of the last five meetings. Columbia took a 2-0 lead on a pair of goals by Rejean Stringer, the second one coming only 46 seconds into the second period. The Pride pulled within one on a power-play goal by Mike Torney at the 4:57 mark of the second period, but a Darrell Hay goal at 15:36 of the second gave Columbia its two-goal lead back, and the win. The Pride fell despite outshooting the Inferno 27-17.
