
Blades Remain Tied with Pee Dee, Playoff Race Heats Up

The Florida Everblades picked up three points this past week after going 1-3-1. The Blades started the week with a pair of games at TECO Arena against the Greensboro Generals. Florida defeated the Generals 3-1 on Monday night but then fell 4-2 on Tuesday night. The Blades then traveled to Columbia on Thursday night where they were defeated by the Inferno 6-3. Florida then played a pair of games in Charleston, SC where they fell Friday night 4-1 and then picked up a point on Saturday night with a 4-3 shootout loss. The Everblades remain tied for third place with the Pee Dee Pride in the ECHL's Southeast Division after this week. The Pride have played one less game (68) than the Everblades (69) coming into this week. Florida hosts the Charlotte Checkers on Tuesday night at TECO Arena at 7:30 PM. The Everblades then take on the Southeastern Division Champion Columbia Inferno on Friday and Saturday night at TECO Arena. The puck drops at 7:30 PM on both nights. The Everblades have already clinched their fifth straight Kelly Cup playoff berth. 'The Gerry Fleming Coaches Show' presented by Stevie Tomato's Sportspage on Sportsradio 770 AM airs on 770 AM from 6:30 - 7:30 PM on Monday nights. Tonight's show will be broadcast live from the Stevie Tomato's in Fort Myers.
UPCOMING EVENTS/PROMOTIONS AT TECO ARENA: The Everblades battle the Charlotte Checkers at 7:30 PM on Tuesday, March 25th at TECO Arena. Florida then hosts the Columbia Inferno on Friday and Saturday night at 7:30 PM. Saturday night is Fan Appreciation Night at TECO Arena. Tuesday, March 25th vs. Charlotte Checkers 7:30 PM/EST
GAME NOTES: The Everblades and Checkers will meet for the second time this season. Florida is 0-1-0 against them this season and the two teams have yet to play at TECO Arena. The Blades were upended by the Checkers 5-1 in Charlotte back on November 22nd. Charlotte (40-26-3, 83 pts.) currently ranks tied for 3rd place in the Northeast Division standings while Florida (34-22-13, 81 pts.) ranks tied for third place in the Southeast. The Checkers are 18-13-2 on the road this season and 8-1-1 in their last ten games. Florida holds an 8-4-0 record all-time against the Checkers and a 3-0-0 record at TECO Arena. Forward Alan Egeland leads the team in scoring with 20-41-61. The Checkers power play ranks 14th in the ECHL and their penalty kill ranks 11th.
Friday, March 28th vs. Columbia Inferno 7:30 PM/EST
GAME NOTES: The Everblades and Inferno will meet for the seventh time this season. Florida is 2-4-0 against them this season and 1-1-0 at TECO Arena. The Blades were upended by the Inferno 6-3 in Columbia last Thursday night. Columbia (46-22-2, 94 pts.) currently ranks in 1st place in the Southeast Division standings while Florida (34-22-13, 81 pts.) ranks tied for third place in the Southeast. The Inferno are 20-12-2 on the road this season and 8-1-1 in their last ten games. Florida holds a 7-6-1 record all-time against the Inferno and a 4-2-0 record at TECO Arena. Forward Rejean Stringer leads the team in scoring with 36-53-97. His 97 points ranks him second in the ECHL. The Inferno power play ranks 2nd in the ECHL and their penalty kill ranks 1st.
Saturday, March 29th vs. Columbia Inferno 7:38 PM/EST
GAME NOTES: The Everblades and Inferno will meet for the eighth and final time this season. The game will begin at 7:38 PM since it is the final TV broadcast of the season on UPN-8. It is also Fan Appreciation Night at TECO Arena.
