Baton Rouge Kingfish News Release


Heading Up: Kingfish defenseman Tom Kaiman was recalled to the Lowell Lock Monsters of the American Hockey League on Thursday. In 45 games this season with the Kingfish, the rookie tallied 1 goal and 8 assists for nine points. Kaiman joined the Lock Monsters in time for their Thursday tilt with the Worcester Ice Cats where he did not register a point. He was even in Saturday's 4-0 loss to Wilkes-Barre while he tallied 2 penalty minutes in Sunday's 4-4 tie with the Portland Pirates.

Shooting Gallery: The Kingfish recorded their highest shot total in a single period in their past four games in Saturday's 5-0 loss against the Jackson Bandits. The Kingfish's 17 shots in the second period was their highest shot output since they registered 17 in a 2-0 loss against the Bandits on March 7th.

Power Play importance: The Kingfish have been relying on their power play in the past 14 games. During that stretch, the Kingfish have won six of fourteen and have picked up at least one power play goal in each of their wins. In Baton Rouge's eight losses, the Kingfish have been kept off the scoreboard on the power play including an 0-for-5 effort in Saturday's 5-0 loss at Jackson.

15th anniversary team: The East Coast Hockey League released its fifteenth anniversary team on Saturday in commeration of the leagues fifteenth anniversary. Kingfish head coach Cam Brown was part of a select few who received votes at the forward position for the team. In addition, Brown was chosen by the league to be a member of the voting committee that selected the team because of his 13 years of involvement with the league as a player and coach.

Scoreless streak: The Kingfish were again held off the scoreboard in their last outing, a 5-0 loss to the Jackson Bandits. The Kingfish have not scored a goal in regulation since Joe Guenther's second period tally at the 16:17 mark in a 4-3 shootout victory over the South Carolina Stingrays on March 8th. The Kingfish have been shutout in their last four games and in five of their last six.

March 22, Jackson 5, Kingfish 0

The Kingfish were again held off the scoreboard as Tyrone Garner shut out the Kingfish for the third time this season. Jackson got goals from five different scorers. The Bandits opened the scoring early in the first on a power play as Eric Fortier lifted a loose puck over an outstretched Jeff Blair just 2:38 into the period. Gauvreau extended the Bandits lead to two goals as he punched a centering pass from Mike Vigilante past Blair at the 8:03 mark of the second period. Josh Olson picked up a rebound and fired it past Blair to give the Bandits 3-0 lead early in the third period. Two minutes later, Scott Kelman slipped around an outstretched Blair and slipped the puck past the Kingfish netminder to give the Bandits a 4-0 lead. Vigilante gave the Bandits a 5-0 lead as his turnaround slap shot beat Blair with just 57 seconds left in the final period. The Kingfish were again held scoreless on the power play as they went 0-5 on the man advantage.

Tuesday, March 25th, @ Mississippi, 705: p.m. (104.5, WZRB)

Last meeting of the season against the Sea Wolves and last road game of the year for the Kingfish. Baton Rouge won the last meeting against the Sea Wolves, a 5-4 victory on March 5th. Mississippi leads the season series, 9-2-0. These two teams have not been to overtime yet this season, the only Southwest division foe the Kingfish have faced in an overtime games this year.

Friday, March 28th, vs. Louisiana, 7:05 p.m. (104.5, WZRB)

IceGators have won the last three meetings with the Kingfish, two by shutout. IceGators nipped the Kingfish 1-0 in the last meeting on March 16th. The Kingfish are 3-6-2 overall this season against the IceGators and are 2-2-1 this season at the Centroplex.

Sunday, March 30th, vs. Arkansas, 4:05 p.m. (104.5, WZRB)

Regular season finale for the Kingfish. Baton Rouge has knocked off the RiverBlades by a 4-3 score in both of the last two meetings. Baton Rouge is 4-6-1 against the RiverBlades this year.
