Cyclones Return to Wheeling For Weekend Set

The Cyclones head to Wheeling this weekend to end their season series with the division leading Nailers. The Cyclones are 0-3-0 this year in Wheeling including a 6-0 loss the last time Cincinnati visisted Wheeling. The Clones went 1-3-0 this week. Cincinnati kicked off the week with a 2-1 shootout win over the Idaho Steelheads on Wednesday. The Cyclones dropped both games of a home and home with Wheeling before losing 4-3 in Toledo on Sunday.

Wednesday, February 18 Idaho 1 at Cincinnati 2 Shootout

The Cyclones broke a season-high nine game losing skid with a 2-1 shootout win over Idaho at U.S. Bank Arena on Wednesday. Tyler Deis opened the scoring with a marker at 3:43 of the second period. Four minutes later, Idaho's David Barauk scored to even the game at one. After a scoreless third period and overtime, the Cyclones came away with a win in the shootout. Tyler Masters stopped four of five Idaho shooters while Ryan Brindley and Evan Cheverie beat Idaho netminder Blair Allison.

Friday, February 20 Cincinnati 0 at Wheeling 6

The Cyclones suffered their worst loss of the season on Friday night in Wheeling. The Nailers scored four first period goals before adding single markers in the second and third periods. The shutout loss was the fifth time this season that the Clones failed to score.

Saturday, February 21 Wheeling 2 at Cincinnati 1

The Cyclones came up one goal short in their rematch with the Nailers at U.S. Bank Arena on Saturday. Steve Crampton scored the game's first goal at 10:08 of the first period. Evan Cheverie would even the score for the Clones in the second with a 5-on-3 shorthanded marker. Cheverie's goal was his fourth as a member of the Clones. The Nailers would score the game winner just four minutes later. Tom Rouleau capitalized on a turnover behind the Cincinnati net and stuffed the puck past Randy Petruk to record his first goal in a Nailers sweater.

Sunday, February 22 Cincinnati 3 at Toledo 4

The Storm took a 2-0 first period lead on goals by Rick Judson and Morten Ask. Andrew Proskurnicki would cut the lead in half by scoring his first goal as a Cyclone with 1:08 left in the first. In the second, Jim Abbott scored for Toledo to reclaim a two-goal lead at 3-1. Shawn Weiman scored his first goal as a Clone at the 8:30 mark of the second. Weiman's goal pulled the Cyclones back to within one goal of the Storm. Tom Nemeth would answer Weiman's marker to put the Storm up 4-2 before the second period ended. In the third, Jason Norrie scored at the 5:46 mark. The Cyclones could pull no closer after Norrie's goal and dropped their third straight to fall to 21-33-3 on the season.

This Week

Friday, February 27th and Saturday, February 28th Cincinnati at Wheeling

The Cyclones return to Wheeling for their final meetings with the Nailers this season. The Clones are 2-5-1 this year vs. Wheeling including an 0-3-0 mark in Wheeling. The Clones have lost their three games in Wheeling by a cumulative score of 15-5. Wheeling's Jason Jaffray has five goals in three games vs. the Cyclones at WesBanco Arena.

Clones to Watch

-Garrett Prosofsky was placed on the 7-day IR after suffering a head injury in Wheeling on Friday.

-The Cyclones are 1-10-1 in February including a 0-5-0 record on the road.
