Gladiators Weekly Update

Atlanta Gladiators News Release

Give him a hat! Forward Kevin Doell recorded the first hat trick in Gladiators history tallying three goals in the first period on Saturday's 7-3 win over the Roanoke Express and he added a fourth goal late in the third for four goals in the game. Coming into Friday's game, eleven different Gladiators had two goal nights this season.

More than a hat! Kevin Doell's four goals in Friday's win are the most goals scored this season by a single player in one game for the Gladiators. Doell's four goals ties an all time team record for goals in a game. Doell becomes the fifth player in the history of the organization to pick up four goals in a game.

Half a Dozen: While we're talking about Kevin Doell, let's not forget that he now has six game winning goals on the season. He recorded the winning tally in Friday's win over the Express. Doell leads the Gladiators in that category and shares first among rookies for game winning goals this season. He also tallied a game winning goal in the American Hockey League in January with the Chicago Wolves.

Power Play Production: The Gladiators scored four power play goals in Friday's 7-3 win in Roanoke. Gwinnett's four goals on the man advantage set a new season high for power play goals in a game. The Gladiators were almost perfect on the power play going 4-for-6 with the extra attacker. Roanoke was able to kill off one Gwinnett power play while the other missed opportunity was the remainder of a five-minute major penalty which saw the Gladiators score two power play goals.

Four Straight: Kevin Doell and Brandon Dietrich each have four game point scoring steaks after the weekend. Both forwards had points in each of the Gladiators two games over the weekend. The streaks began last weekend in the Gladiators 7-2 win over the Express in Gwinnett.

In Goal: Gladiators netminder Trevor Prior made a handful of good saves in both games for the Gladiators to keep the Express in check. Since arriving in Gwinnett, Prior has posted a 6-3-2 record and a .912 save percentage in 11 starts with Gwinnett. The netminder, who was acquired from Columbia at the end of January, has a 2.79 goals against average in those 11 starts.

Famous Chicken Night: Don't miss the Famous Chicken's first appearance in Gwinnett on Friday, February 27th when the Gladiators battle the Pensacola Ice Pilots at 7:35 p.m. The Famous Chicken is presented by Charter Communications, EnTrust, The Belinfante Family, Scientific Atlanta and 680AM The Fan.
