Johnstown Chiefs News Release
The Johnstown Chiefs (30-16-6; 66 PTS; 5th Northern div.) got seven out of a possible eight points last week after going 3-0-1. The Chiefs remain in fourth place in the Northern division despite being red hot. They trail third place Peoria and Reading by two points, second place Atlantic City by ten points and first place Wheeling by twelve points. The Chiefs will play four games in five nights this week, beginning on Wednesday night at Trenton. Friday night they begin a home and home series with Toledo at Toledo, and Sunday afternoon the Chiefs will host Trenton again.

GAME #49 (2/16/04) Peoria 5 - JOHNSTOWN 4 (SO) Courville Two Goals, Assist
The Johnstown Chiefs surrendered a three goal lead and would fall to the visiting Peoria Rivermen 5-4, in a shootout Monday night at the War Memorial. The Chiefs jumped out to a 4-1 lead with a pair of goals by Larry Courville, including a shorthanded goal and tallies by Brent Kelly and Dominic Forget. Peoria climbed back quickly with a Tyler Rennette goal with 0:36 left in the second period and third period goals by Scott Turner and Marty Johnston. Peoria won the shootout by a score of 2-1. Chiefs goaltender David Currie made 25 saves in the contest, while Rivermen goaltender Mike Valley made 25 saves.
GAME #50 (2/17/04) JOHNSTOWN 5 - Peoria 4 Hildenbrand Two Goals
Steve Hildenbrand's power play goal with 3:20 left in the third period lifted the Johnstown Chiefs to a 5-4 victory over the visiting Peoria Rivermen, Tuesday night at the War Memorial. Chiefs goaltender Arturs Irbe stopped 31 of 35 Rivermen shots for his 10th win of the season and final game as a Chief. The Chiefs also got goals from Jay Langager, Shawn Mather and Chad Cavanagh. Hildenbrand also has a second period tally. Marty Johnston had a pair of goals for the Rivermen, while Scott Turner and Colin Hemingway also scored.
GAME #51 (2/21/04) JOHNSTOWN 4 - Trenton 2 Cavanagh Game Winning Goal
In front of their fourth sellout crowd (3,728) of the season, the Chiefs defeated the visiting Trenton Titans 4-2, Saturday night at the War Memorial. Chad Cavanagh, Steve Hildenbrand, Jeff Zehr and Brent Kelly all scored for Johnstown. Tyler Kindle and Bryce Cockburn scored for Trenton. Chiefs goaltender Dimitri Patzold (9 saves) got his first ECHL win in his first game in a Chiefs uniform. The Chiefs out shot the Titans 41-11 in the contest including holding the Titans to one shot in the second period. Titans goaltender Andrew Allen made 37 saves in the defeat.
GAME #52 (2/22/04) JOHNSTOWN 4 - Dayton 0 Currie 31 Saves, Shutout
The Johnstown Chiefs picked up their third straight win and goaltender David Currie (31 saves) posted his second shutout of the season as the Chiefs defeated the visiting Dayton Bombers 4-0, Sunday afternoon at the War Memorial. Steve Hildenbrand scored a shorthanded goal for the Chiefs, while Brent Kelly, Dominic Forget and Jeff Zehr also tallied. Bombers goaltender Andrew Penner made 24 saves in the contest.

Wednesday night, the Chiefs travel to Trenton take on the Titans (25-20-6, 56 PTS; 6th Northern div.). The Chiefs are 3-1-0 against the Titans this season and 9-14-2 all-time. Trenton currently trails the Chiefs by ten points for fifth place and the final playoff spot in the division. The Titans are 4-5-1 in their last ten games and are winless in their last two games (0-1-1). The two teams will face off against one another Sunday afternoon in Johnstown.

The Chiefs and Toledo Storm (21-25-6, 48 PTS; 7th Northern div.) will play a home and home series this weekend beginning Friday night in Toledo, with the rematch coming Saturday night in Johnstown. The Chiefs are 3-2-1 against the Storm this season and 39-43-1 all-time. Toledo is 4-4-2 in their last ten games.

The Chiefs will host Trenton Sunday afternoon at the War Memorial. The game is also Heluva Good Foods Family Sunday. Their will be a FREE post game skate following the game with the entire Chiefs team plus autograph session. The 4 for $44 Family Fun Package will also be available (2 adult tickets, two children's tickets, four hot dogs, four sodas, four popcorns for $44).

- Goaltender David Currie is 9-1-2 in his last twelve starts.
- The Chiefs notched their 28th win with last Tuesday's 5-4 win over Peoria. The victory matched their win total from 2002-03 when they went 28-33-11.
