Royals Win in Shootout Thriller...Beat Trenton, 3-2

February 23, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Reading Royals News Release

Forwards Lars Pettersen and David Masse scored in the shootout, as Reading downed division rival Trenton, 3-2.

Goaltender Cody Rudkowsky, making his first start since February 7th, stopped all four Titans' (25-20-6) shooters he faced in the shootout, in addition to making 32 saves in regulation, for his team-leading 18th win of the season.

Royals' defenseman Regan Rome scored his first goal in a Reading sweater, notching a powerplay tally to open the game's scoring at 3:28 of the first period.

The game was tied at 1-1 after 40 minutes of play, but Royals' PIM leader Dave Stewart scored his fourth goal of the year with 12:28 remaining to put the home team ahead.

After the Titans' Jeff Smith deadlocked the contest in the game's final minutes, and both teams failed to score in overtime, it was on to the shootout.

With the win, Reading (30-15-8) moved to 6-1-0 versus its Northern division foe this year. The victory was the team's 20th at home this season, as they continue to sport the league's best home record.

The Royals hit the ice again on Tuesday, February 24th, as the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies come to town. The puck drops at 7:05 pm. All the action can be heard live via the Royals' web site.
