Cron Homers, Donatella Sharp in Aces Victory over Tacoma
May 8, 2019 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Reno Aces News Release
Reno, Nevada - Justin Donatella was looking for a bounce-back start, and that's what he got. Coming off an outing where he gave up 10 earned runs in three innings on April 27, the 6-foot-6 righty went five innings tonight allowing just two runs and five hits while striking out four. Behind the solid start, the Aces came out victorious, 4-3, over the Tacoma Rainiers Tuesday night. The Aces scored three in the fourth inning courtesy of a Kevin Cron 2-run home run followed by a Marty Herum sacrifice fly a few batters later. Yasmany Tomas drove in the fourth run the very next inning on an RBI-single.
The Rainiers cut the deficit to one in the bottom of the seventh on a RBI-single off the bat of center fielder Mallex Smith. However, it was not enough as the Aces bullpen was able cut the Rainiers rally short. Lefty Marc Rzepczynski came in and got two big outs in the seventh inning lowering his ERA to 1.72 on the year. Rubby De La Rosa threw a scoreless eighth and Jimmie Sherfy closed the door in the ninth to send Aces fans home happy. It is Sherfy's fourth save in his last four appearances and his PCL leading seventh overall. Reno is back in action Wednesday night at 6:05 p.m. with right-hander Matt Koch making his first start of the season for the Aces.
