Aviators Score Late to Upend Bees

May 8, 2019 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Salt Lake Bees News Release

The Las Vegas Aviators broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the eighth inning and go on to a 3-1 win over the Salt Lake Bees on Tuesday night

Jorge Mateo led off with a single off of Salt Lake reliever Jake Jewell. After Mateo stole second base, Beau Taylor walked and both were advanced on a sacrifice bunt. Seth Brown followed with an RBI single to put Las Vegas in front. They would add an insurance run on a wild pitch by Jewell (0-2). The Bees had taken a 1-0 lead in the first when Matt Thaiss led off with a double, advanced to third on a fly out and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jared Walsh, which gives him eight runs batted in over his last five games. The Aviators tied the game at 1-1 with a run in the bottom of the sixth.

The Las Vegas rally negated a strong start by the Bees' Dillon Peters, who went five innings and allowed no runs on two hits with eight strikeouts and two walks. Salt Lake managed just four hits against two Aviators pitchers with Thaiss coming through with two of them.
