Condors Sign Goaltender Magers

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors announced today the signing of goaltender Marty Magers.

Magers, 23, began the season with the Roanoke Valley Vipers of the United Hockey League. The 6-foot-1, 180 pound netminder made his professional debut in 2004-05 with the Rockford Icehogs following a strong junior hockey career. The Omaha, Nebraska native spent the beginning of his junior career playing in his hometown with the USHL's Omaha Lancers. In his first two seasons, Magers went a combined 37-11-5, helping the Lancers to the Clark Cup playoff championship in 2000-01 and the Anderson Cup regular season title in 2001-02 when he was named to the All-USHL second team. The 2002 Buffalo Sabres draft pick spent a year in the Ontario Hockey League before returning to the Lancers in 2003-04 and posting a .910 save percentage. Magers played in 8 career playoff games with the Lancers, going 2-3 in five postseason starts.

"Marty is a very talented young goaltender," said Condors Head Coach Marty Raymond. "We're fortunate to have him aboard and given the right frame of mind, he can be a bonus to our team."

The Condors return home on January 31st to host the Alaska Aces. That evening, all college and high school students will receive admission for $1.00 by presenting their current student ID courtesy of WB-TV 12 and 106.1 KRAB Radio. Bakersfield hosts San Diego on Friday, February 3rd, as the ZOOperstars visit Condorstown sponsored by KGET- TV 17 and Rio Bravo Country Club. On Saturday, February 4th, 93.1 Pirate Radio and Carl's Jr. present Playing Card Giveaway & Poker Night as the Condors on the Las Vegas Wranglers. The first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive a deck of Condors Playing Cards courtesy of 93.1 Pirate Radio and Carl's Jr.
