Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors announced today the signing of goaltender Marty Magers.
Magers, 23, began the season with the Roanoke Valley Vipers of the United Hockey League. The 6-foot-1, 180 pound netminder made his professional debut in 2004-05 with the Rockford Icehogs following a strong junior hockey career. The Omaha, Nebraska native spent the beginning of his junior career playing in his hometown with the USHL's Omaha Lancers. In his first two seasons, Magers went a combined 37-11-5, helping the Lancers to the Clark Cup playoff championship in 2000-01 and the Anderson Cup regular season title in 2001-02 when he was named to the All-USHL second team. The 2002 Buffalo Sabres draft pick spent a year in the Ontario Hockey League before returning to the Lancers in 2003-04 and posting a .910 save percentage. Magers played in 8 career playoff games with the Lancers, going 2-3 in five postseason starts.
"Marty is a very talented young goaltender," said Condors Head Coach Marty Raymond. "We're fortunate to have him aboard and given the right frame of mind, he can be a bonus to our team."
