BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads today announced that its American Hockey League affiliate Iowa Stars, have assigned two forwards, Janos Vas and B.J. Crombeen, to the ECHL team, and winger Mike Stutzel has left the Steelheads to play in Europe.
Vas, who is signed on a two-way contract with Iowa and the NHL's Dallas Stars, began the season with the Steelheads, but was recalled to Iowa on November 7th. The Stars' second round 2002 NHL draft pick (32nd overall) tallied two goals and three assists with Idaho prior to his call up. In 21-games with Iowa, the 6-foot-1, 205-pound rookie recorded one goal and four assists in 21 games. The 22-year-old is from Hungary and represented Team Hungary at the 2000 U-18 European Junior Championships.
Crombeen, also selected in the second round (54th overall) by Dallas in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft and on a two-way (AHL/NHL) contract, has tallied 10 points (four goals, 10 assists) in 34 games with Iowa this season. Prior to this season, the 21-year-old played four seasons with the Barrie Colts in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). The 6-foot-2, 215-pound right wing hails from Newmarket, Ontario.
In addition, the Steelheads suspended Stutzel from the team as he decided to leave to pursue an opportunity in Europe. The 6-foot-2, 215-pound forward was playing in his second season with the Steelheads and had notched 45 points (11 goals, 34 assists) in 45 games. The Northern Michigan University graduate resume includes nine games played with the NHL's Phoenix Coyotes during the 2003-04 season.
Both Vas and Crombeen are expected to be in the lineup for tonight's tilt against the Las Vegas Wranglers.
Game time is 7:10 pm and tickets can be purchased at the Qwest Arena Box Office, by visiting any Select-A-Seat outlet, by calling 331-TIXS (8497), or through the Steelheads website by logging on to www.idahosteelheads.com.
