Johnstown Chiefs News Release

Johnstown, PA (January 30, 2006) -- Johnstown Chiefs General Manager Toby O'Brien announced today that the Chiefs have acquired goaltender Mike Betz from the Wheeling Nailers in exchange for cash considerations.

Betz, 24, is the all-time wins leader at Ohio State, where he was a teammate of current Chiefs Doug Andress and J.B. Bittner. From 2000-01 to 2003-04, Betz was 73-57-11. He played one game last season for Fresno before leaving for a one year assignment in the Peace Corps. He signed with Wheeling earlier this month.

Betz was the CCHA Humanitarian of the Year during his senior campaign. He becomes the second goaltender on the Chiefs roster, along with Morgan Cey. Cey was the only contract goalie on the Chiefs roster last weekend, as Jonathan Boutin was called up to Springfield.

The Johnstown Chiefs 2005-06 season continues Wednesday at home against Trenton. The Chiefs are tied with Trenton for fourth place in the North Division. Tickets are available by calling 1-800-SLAPSHOT or by visiting www.ticketmaster.com.
