Bakersfield Condors News Release
Bakersfield, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors (21-9-2-0, 44 points) rallied in the third period to defeat the Stockton Thunder (14-16-1-2, 31 points) on Friday night in front of 6,005 fans at Rabobank Arena. Bakersfield trailed 3-2 heading into the third period, but exploded for four goals in the final frame to complete the comeback. LW Shawn Weller picked up two goals and an assist, while F Stephane Goulet added two goals and an assist.
The Condors took the lead with a power play tally in the first frame. Goulet jammed in his 11th of the season past Thunder G Andrew Perugini at 8:46, capping off a furious attack of the Thunder net. But Stockton bounced back with a pair of late goals to take the lead into the dressing room. C Chris D'Alvise and LW Igor Gongalsky scored just 1:15 apart, in the final minutes of the action, to make it 2-1 after one.
Early in the middle stanza the Condors tied it up. Goulet sniped home his second of the night at 2:55 to make it 2-2, finishing off a pair of slick passes from D Sasha Pokulok and F Andrew Ianiero. The Thunder however regained the advantage, potting a power play goal past Condors G Timo Pielmeier with 2:07 left in the period. Shots were 23-18 after 40 minutes of play, in favor of the visitors.
The Condors came to life in the third period, out-scoring Stockton 4-1 and out-shooting them 11-6 in the final 20 minutes. At 5:56 of the third period, F Mathieu Aubin punched home a loose puck in front to make it a 3-3 game. With 9:15 gone by in the final frame, LW Ryan Donally deflected a point shot from D Mark Mitera to give the Condors their first lead since the opening period. The Condors onslaught continued on the power play when Weller completed a 2-on-1 with Ianiero with a backhand deke for his first of the game with 6:41 to play for a 5-3 advantage. Stockton cut the lead to 5-4 when F James Bates scored with 2:11 left in the third period on the power play. Weller salted the game away with empty netter in the final minute for his second of the game and 12th of the season.
