Stockton Thunder News Release
STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, a two-time recipient of the ECHL "Award of Excellence," announced the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League have recalled goaltender Bryan Pitton (PITT-in) and the San Jose Sharks of the NHL have recalled defenseman Jason Demers (Duh-MURS) from the Thunder.
Selected in the fifth round (133rd overall) by Edmonton in the 2006 National Hockey League Entry Draft by Edmonton and under NHL contract to the Oilers, Pitton is 4-1-0 with two overtime wins in his last five starts and is 7-8-1 overall with a goals-against average of 3.15 and a save percentage of.912 in 17 games for the Thunder.
The 6-foot-2, 176-pound netminder has been recalled to the NHL for the third time this season. He suited up for the Oilers on Jan. 2 at San Jose and backed up goaltender Jeff-Drouin Deslauriers, but did not play.
Pitton played for Stockton as a rookie in 2008-09 and was 9-19-3 with a goals-against average of 3.39 and a save percentage of.886 in 34 games.
Demers has played in 34 games with San Jose this season, posting 15 points (2g-13a) and a +8 rating (T-4th on team). In five games with the Worcester Sharks of the American Hockey League, he has three points (2g-1a).
He was drafted by San Jose in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft (7th round, 186th overall).
The Thunder returns to play tonight to finish a four-game road trip, beginning at 7:00 p.m. against the Bakersfield Condors at Rabobank Arena. The game can be heard and viewed online at www.stocktonthunder.com, courtesy of B2 Networks (audio is free of charge).
