Reading Royals News Release

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that forward Ben Gordon has been named the co-recipient of the AMI Graphics Plus Performer of the Month for December. Gordon, second year pro from International Falls, Minnesota, played to a plus-9 (+9) in the ten games he played for Reading during December. He was tied for the top performance in the plus/minus category this past month with forwards Trent Campbell of the South Carolina Stingrays and Chris Capraro of the Wheeling Nailers and defenseman Ryan Constant of the Stockton Thunder. Gordon, who has been on loan to the Marlies since December 27, 2009, is the fifth player in the nine year history of the Royals to win the ECHL Plus Performer of the Month Award, joining Jeff Miles (November, 2004), Chris Barr (November 2005), Shawn Germain (December 2006), and P.J. Atherton (October 2007).

Gordon, who played his college hockey at the University of Minnesota, played to a plus in seven of his ten games with Reading in December. He compiled a streak of five straight 'plus' games prior to being called up to Toronto. That streak included a career high plus-5 (+5) game against the Johnstown Chiefs on December 16, when he racked up a hattrick and a pair of assists in the first five point game of his career. Overall, Gordon, who has registered forty points (16g-24a) in twenty-eight games with the Royals, has played to a plus-9 (+9) for Reading, which is second on the team to defenseman Eric Werner who has played to a plus-11 (+11) in thirty games with Reading.

The Royals return to the ice tomorrow (Saturday, January 9, 2010 @ 7:05) when the Cincinnati Cyclones visit the Sovereign Center for the only time during the 2009-10 regular season. The Royals game night broadcast on the Royals Radio Network presented by Transmissions by Arbogast will kick off with the pre-game warm-up show at 6:35 pm.
