Condors close 2007 with win over the first-place Wranglers, 3-2

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors beat the Las Vegas Wranglers Sunday evening, 3-2, in front of 4,811 at Rabobank Arena in downtown Bakersfield. LW Evan Kotsopoulos broke the 2-2 tie with the game-winning goal for Bakersfield midway through the third period.

It only took 28 seconds for the Condors (8-17-5, 21 points) to take the lead in the first period. D Kevin Truelson found the puck in the slot and hammered it home for his seventh tally of the year, putting Bakersfield up, 1-0. The Condors added to the lead at 15:53 when LW Eric Sonnenberg tipped a rebound into the net from the crease for his fourth goal of the season, giving Bakersfield a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission.

Las Vegas (21-5-4, 46 points) notched its first goal at 3:01 in the second period on a two-man power play, as D Aaron Power ripped a slap shot from just inside the left point past Bakersfield G Yutaka Fukufuji. Just under four minutes later, Wranglers LW Shawn Limpright tied the game at 2-2 with a backhanded wraparound tally.

The tie remained intact until the 10:28 mark of the third period when LW Evan Kotsopoulos netted the go ahead goal. Sonnenberg's initial shot was deflected and kicked around the net, where Kotsopoulos chased it down and curled around the nearside post for the wraparound goal that put the Condors in the lead for good.

Notes: G Yutaka Fukufuji made 25 saves on 27 shots in the winning effort. C Tim Konsorada had a five-game goal scoring streak (6g) and a six- game point streak (6g-2a) snapped tonight. D Reagan Leslie scored his 10th career goal and 50th career point last night against Stockton. The Condors snapped a two-game overall losing streak and an eight-game home winless streak tonight.

The Condors will be back in The Nest on Friday, Jan. 4 to take on the Idaho Steelheads. It will be the My 45 What U Didn't Get for Christmas event, where 100 lucky fans will win one of the hottest gifts this Holiday season - a Hannah Montana Singing Doll and Pop Star Stage, Transformers Unleashed - Optimus Prime or Guitar Hero III. Doors open at 5 p.m., puck drops at 6 p.m.

Bakersfield will remain at home for another game against the Steelheads on Saturday, Jan. 5. Diego from the Go Diego Go show will be on hand to mingle and pose for pictures, and all fans will receive a Condors poster featuring Brett Lutes, Tim Konsorada and Joe Dustin, courtesy of Bright House Networks & La Preciosa 105.3. Doors open at 6 p.m., puck drops at 7 p.m.
