BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors beat the Las Vegas Wranglers Sunday evening, 3-2, in front of 4,811 at Rabobank Arena in downtown Bakersfield. LW Evan Kotsopoulos broke the 2-2 tie with the game-winning goal for Bakersfield midway through the third period.
It only took 28 seconds for the Condors (8-17-5, 21 points) to take the lead in the first period. D Kevin Truelson found the puck in the slot and hammered it home for his seventh tally of the year, putting Bakersfield up, 1-0. The Condors added to the lead at 15:53 when LW Eric Sonnenberg tipped a rebound into the net from the crease for his fourth goal of the season, giving Bakersfield a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
Las Vegas (21-5-4, 46 points) notched its first goal at 3:01 in the second period on a two-man power play, as D Aaron Power ripped a slap shot from just inside the left point past Bakersfield G Yutaka Fukufuji. Just under four minutes later, Wranglers LW Shawn Limpright tied the game at 2-2 with a backhanded wraparound tally.
The tie remained intact until the 10:28 mark of the third period when LW Evan Kotsopoulos netted the go ahead goal. Sonnenberg's initial shot was deflected and kicked around the net, where Kotsopoulos chased it down and curled around the nearside post for the wraparound goal that put the Condors in the lead for good.
Notes: G Yutaka Fukufuji made 25 saves on 27 shots in the winning effort. C Tim Konsorada had a five-game goal scoring streak (6g) and a six- game point streak (6g-2a) snapped tonight.
