Johnstown Chiefs News Release

Johnstown, PA - The Chiefs got the New Year's Eve crowd of 3,821 fired up early with a Mike Cohen power play goal at 12:07 of the first, but dropped a 5-2 decision to Elmira on Monday night.

Cohen tipped in a Rob Drummond point shot for the 1-0 lead with Tyler Hirsch adding the second assist.

Hirsch would then score his third of the year to tie the score at two a piece in the second, deflecting in an Alex Imbeault pass. The Jackals had taken a 2-1 lead when Chaz Johnson pounded home a rebound 14:41 of the second. Frank Littlejohn's 12th goal of the year had tied the game at one 2:38 earlier.

Pierre-Luc Faubert gave the visitors the winning goal just 35 seconds into the third. Faubert took a sharp angle wrist shot from the right wing that snuck between Ryan Nie's left arm and the post. The Jackals added two empty-net goals, one by Faubert and one by Benoit Doucet, to make the game look more lop-sided than it was.

Nie ended the game with 17 saves on 20 shots, and the Chiefs' power play went 1-for-4.

The next Chiefs home game is on January 18 against the Dayton Bombers at the guaranteed win night. If the Chiefs do not win against the Bombers, fans in attendance will receive a voucher to a future Chiefs game. If you miss that one, you can catch the Chiefs on January 26 when they take on the Bombers as well. The Chiefs will be having a paper air plane toss sponsored by Toyota. Great seats are still available for both games, call 536-5156 or go to johnstownchiefs.com to reserve yours today!!
