December 31, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Idaho Steelheads News Release
Phoenix, AZ - Third-year goaltender Steve Silverthorn made 36 saves for his second shutout of the season, as the Steelheads stifled the RoadRunners 2-0 in a New Year's Eve affair at the US Airways Center on Monday afternoon.
Silverthorn's 10th career, regular season ECHL shutout helped the Steelheads (15-10-7) to their third win of their seven-game road trip and their fifth straight victory against the RoadRunners (10-15-5) this season.
After a scoreless first stanza, Darrell Hay buried a right point shot through traffic at the 7:32 mark of the second period to put the Steelheads in front 1-0. The goal, listed as unassisted, was Hay's sixth of the campaign and his second game-winner.
At 15:14 of the third period Blake Forsyth gave the Steelheads some insurance, collecting his second of the series and fourth of the year to give the visitors a 2-0 advantage. On the play, Lance Galbraith rang a shot off the post to the right of RoadRunners' goaltender David McKee (27 saves) and the ensuing scramble resulted in Forsyth working the puck over the goal line. Mike Sullivan recorded an assist as well.
The final shots favored the RoadRunners 36-29, with the Steelheads finishing the night zero-for-four on the power play and the RoadRunners going scoreless in six chances. Silverthorn is now 7-6-4 on the year. The loss drops McKee to 2-4-2.
The Steelheads open 2008 with their fifth game of their seven-game road trip on Wednesday, January 2. The puck drops at 7:11 p.m. MST. All the action can be heard live on 1350 AM, KTIK "The Ticket" or via the B2 Networks. Don't forget, Steelheads' single-game tickets can be purchased via www.idahosteelheads.com (using the print-at-home feature), by calling 331-TIXS or from the Qwest Arena box office.
