Charlotte Checkers News Release

Charlotte, N.C. - The Charlotte Checkers played the Augusta Lynx on the brink of the new year and came away with a 2-0 road victory.

Neither team was able to get on the scoreboard in the first period thanks to stellar goaltender from Augusta netminder, JP Levasseur and Charlotte goalie, Chris Holt who made his first start for the team since the season opener on Oct. 19.

During the middle stanza, it only took 46 seconds for Chris Capraro to get the Checkers on the board as he Shawn Vinz drove to the net and dropped the puck for Capraro who fired a shot over the blocker of Levasseur making it 1-0 for Charlotte. Capraro would follow up with a power play goal during a two-man advantage at 12:05 stuffing the puck in on the short side.

In the final period, Chris Holt would continue his brilliant performance stopping several point blank chances that came his way as the Checkers would skate away with a 2-0 win.

Notes: Holt would stop all 29 shots that he faced while Levasseur turned aside 30 of 32...The Checkers scored one power play goal on seven chances while the Lynx were unsuccessful on three attempts.
