Texas Wildcatters News Release

The Catters continued their domination of the South Division by going 2-0 this week a 4-1 win at Pensacola on Friday and a 10-5 win at Mississippi Saturday night.

2007 was by far the most successful season in Wildcatters' history, as the team succeeded in securing it's first-ever Kelly Cup playoff berth, first playoff win (5-2 at Gwinnett 4/15/07), first playoff series victory (Divisional Semi-finals 3-1 over Gwinnett), and an overall calendar year record of 45-18-4-6 for an even 100 points and win percentage of .685.

Who knows what 2008 may hold for the ECHL's top team...

Last Week:

Record: 2-0-0-0

12/28 4-1 WIN @ Pensacola:

John McNabb scored twice and Max Taylor and Kevin Baker added tallies as the Wildcatters improved to 6-0-0 versus the Ice Pilots this season. Peter Aubry notched 19 saves and improved to 12-2-1-1 this season.

12/29 10-5 WIN @ Mississippi:

The Wildcatters scored a season-high 10 goals-courtesy in large part to hat tricks by both Max Taylor and Moises Gutierrez-and improved to 5-0-0-1 versus the Sea Wolves. Scott Champagne had four assists, Kevin Baker scored twice, John McNabb added three assists, and Brandon Benedict scored once and had two helpers as 13 of 15 Wildcatters skaters gave Anton Khudobin more than enough offense to improve his record to 12-0-0-3.

This Week:

Friday Jan. 4 v. Charlotte @ FORD ARENA:

The Wildcatters host Charlotte for the first time in 2007-08 Friday night at Ford Arena. John McNabb scored the game winning goal as the Catters won 6-2 in the only meeting this season between the teams on October 20.

Saturday Jan. 5 v. Charlotte @ FORD ARENA:

Join the Catters for Golden Triangle Telephone Directory Night! The first 1000 fans will receive free rally towels in the second and final game of the short two-game series.

Notes and Asides:

Moises Gutierrez has a four-game points streak and had six points in the two games this week, including a hat trick as part of a 3g-2a performance at Mississippi...Brandon Benedict is riding a six-game points streak and has registered at least one point in 10 of the last 11 games (3g-15a), all in the month of December... Kevin Baker ran his points streak to seven games with a goal Friday and two goals Saturday. He has scored in all seven games since his return to the Wildcatters on December 14 (6g-4a).

The Catters' current 19-game unbeaten-in-regulation streak (15-0-1-3) includes entire month of December (11-0-1-1)...Saturday's 10-5 win @MIS marked a season-high in GS (10) and highest GA (5) since season opener v. AUG 10/19 (L 3-6)...also the first time two Wildcatters have registered hat tricks in same game (Taylor, Gutierrez), season-high # players with point in game (13), season-high # players w/ multiple points in game(8).

Head Coach Malcolm Cameron is one win away from tying the club record for wins by a coach. His current 65 victories are one shy of tying the 66 accumulated by Ray Edwards as coach of the Huntinton Blizzard (now the Texas Wildcatters) from 1998-2000.

FINALLY...

Congratulations to Coach Cameron and his wife Heather, who announced the acquisition of undrafted free agent Logan Alexander Cameron (6 lbs. 13 oz.) on Sunday, January 30, several days earlier than expected. Per team policy, terms of the deal were undisclosed.
