Salmon Kings Split Versus Falcons
December 31, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
The Victoria Salmon Kings concluded their post-Christmas three games in three night California road trip with the second of consecutive meetings against the Fresno Falcons on Sunday night.
The Falcons came out quickly scoring in the game's first five minutes when Brady Leisenring scored to give Fresno a 1-0 lead. The Falcons made it 2-0 with a power play goal when Oren Eizenman took a nice pass and batted it past Victoria netminder Billy Thompson. Fresno led 2-0 after one period.
The Falcons continued to apply the pressure in the second period and were rewarded when Jarrett Konkle scored his second in as many nights on a goal mouth scramble to make it 3-0. They would increase their lead again when Victoria cleared a rebound right onto Eizenman's stick, and he tucked it into the open net. After two periods the Falcons led 4-0.
The Kings' got on the board early in the third when Wes Goldie slid a puck from behind the net into the skates of Falcons' goalie Kris Mayotte. Then the Fresno goalie end up kicking the puck into his own net. The Salmon Kings then made it a two goal game a few minutes later when the puck took a strange bounce off the boards on a wraparound entry pass. Mayotte was caught outside his net and the puck bounced out in front of the net right onto Kevin Estrada's stick, and he deposited in the open cage. The Falcons struck back when Igor Gongalsky scored to make it 5-3. Wes Goldie would score on a 5-on-3 power play before the game ended, but the Kings could not complete the comeback. Falcons 5 Salmon Kings 3.
Salmon Kings were 2-8=25% on the power play and the Falcons were 2-7=28.6%. Fresno outshot Victoria 37-29.
The King's return to the friendly confines of the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre next week for a three game set versus the Utah Grizzlies. The first game goes on Thursday, January 3rd at 7:05 p.m. Get your tickets today by phoning 220-7889.
