Condors Acquire Ianiero From Charlotte
November 3, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release
Bakersfield, Calif. â The Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL has announced the acquisition of LW Andrew Ianiero, completing an earlier trade with the Charlotte Checkers for the rights to rookie RW Mike Wirll.
Ianiero, 22, is in his second season in the pro ranks. After completing his junior career with the Kingston Frontenacs, the Hamilton, Ontario native broke into ECHL last season. He split the year between the Dayton Bombers and Augusta Lynx, scoring 11g-23a-34pts in 60 games. He also recorded 51 penalty minutes. This season, he had yet to record a point in three games.
The 6-foot, 200-pound winger spent four seasons in Kingston, scoring 20 goals each year and totaling 220 points. The Ottawa Senators drafted Ianiero in the fifth round of the 1999 National Hockey League Entry Draft.
Wirll was invited to the New York Rangers training camp, and later attended camp with the Hartford Wolf Pack. He appeared in five regular season and five playoff games for the Condors, registering 1g-1a-2pts in those 10 matches.
The injuries continue to mount for Bakersfield, with LW Vince Malts placed on the seven day Injured Reserve list over the weekend. LW Ivan Prokic was released today, providing the room on the roster for the signing. Prokic recorded three assists with 10 penalty minutes in eight games with the Condors.
The Condors will be in action for three games in three nights next weekend, starting with Friday night's game in Las Vegas. Game time is 7:00pm, and can be heard live on KGEO AM 1230, as well as online at www.bakersfieldcondors.com. They return home on Saturday, November 8th when Alaska comes into town. That game features a Veteran's Day Jersey Raffle and Auction, sponsored by KUZZ 107.9, and the proceeds benefit MDA.
