Mississippi Slips on the Road

BILOXI, Miss. – The Mississippi Sea Wolves went 1-2-0 over a three-game road trip last week, dropping from a three-way tie for first place in the ECHL's Central Division, down to third place.

On Wednesday, the Sea Wolves fell 5-2 at Gwinnett, defeated Columbia 5-2 on Thursday at the Carolina Coliseum and ended their three-game road swing on Saturday, losing 6-2, at Pensacola.

Mississippi has a record of 3-3-2 for a total of eight points. The Sea Wolves are three points behind the Gwinnett Gladiators for first place in the Central Division. Mississippi is 2-0-2 at home and 1-3-0 on the road.

GAME PREVIEWS –

Friday, Nov. 7 vs. Louisiana IceGators – 7:35 p.m. CT – Mississippi Coast Coliseum

This is the third of 14 head-to-head games. Louisiana leads the season series 2-0-0, taking a home-and-home set on opening weekend.

The IceGators won the season opener on October 17 at Mississippi, 3-2 in the shootout. Louisiana's Bobby Brown scored a pair of goals in the win. Goaltender Derek Gustafson backstopped the IceGators, making 22 saves.

In the last meeting between the teams, Louisiana edged Mississippi, 2-1, on October 18 at the Cajundome. IceGators' Konstantin Kalmikov tallied both goals on the power play for Louisiana. Sea Wolves' Steffon Walby netted the only Mississippi goal with the man advantage. Former ECHL Most Valuable Player, IceGators' Frederic Cloutier turned away 26 shots for the victory.

Mississippi is 26-25-5 all-time against Louisiana during the regular season.

The Sea Wolves are 16-10-2 all-time versus the IceGators at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.

Sunday, Nov. 9 vs. Fresno Falcons – 4:05 p.m. CT – Mississippi Coast Coliseum

The game is the first-ever between the teams and only meeting of the season.

Fresno becomes the ECHL's first-ever California-based team to play at Mississippi. The travel distance between Fresno and Biloxi, Mississippi is 2,144 miles.

It's the ninth of 11 straight road games for Fresno to begin the season. The Falcons home opener in the brand new Save Mart Center, with a capacity of 13,800, will be on November 16 against the Bakersfield Condors.

Fresno is affiliated with the National Hockey League San Jose Sharks and Cleveland Barons of the American Hockey League.

The Falcons are coached by Blaine Moore, who is in his fifth season as head coach and general manager of Fresno, after serving two seasons as player/assistant coach.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Veteran Louis Dumont netted his first goals of the year, tallying four over a three-game span and added an assist, while accumulating a +6 rating. The 5-foot-10, 180-pound native of Wetaskiwin, Alberta potted a pair on Wednesday, in Mississippi's 5-2 loss at Gwinnett and counted his third goal of the campaign at Columbia on Thursday, in the Sea Wolves victory. On Saturday, Dumont returned to Pensacola for the first time with Mississippi, netting one goal and picking up an assist, only to have the Ice Pilots win 6-2.

GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK – Greg Gardner takes the honor after going 1-1 last week. The 6-foot and 190-pound native of Mississauga, Ontario backstopped Mississippi to its first road win of the season, knocking off Columbia 5-2 on Thursday. Gardner and the Sea Wolves fell 6-2 on Saturday at Pensacola. The 27-year-old has an overall record of 2-2-1, 2.56 goals against average and .918 save percentage.
