Johnstown Chiefs News Release


The Johnstown Chiefs (25-29-9; 59 PTS; 5th NW div.) continued to gain ground in the hunt for the fourth and final playoff spot, as they went 2-0-0 on the week and extended their unbeaten streak to five games (4-0-1). The Chiefs defeated the Reading Royals in a come from behind shoot out win Saturday night, and Sunday afternoon they crushed the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies 5-1. This week the Chiefs will play at Cincinnati on Tuesday night, before hosting Atlantic City on Friday and Trenton on Saturday. The Chiefs trail fourth place Cincinnati by five points and third place Lexington by six points for the final playoff spot.

GAME #62 (3/8/03) Johnstown 5 – Reading 4 (SO)
J. Shmyr Goal, Assist

Trailing 3-0, the Chiefs stormed back to get a 5-4 shoot out win Saturday night at Reading. The Chiefs scored three, third period goals to tie the game 4-4 and send it into the extra session. Jason Shmyr had a goal and an assist, while Brent Bilodeau, Ian Manzano, and Dmitri Tarabrin also scored. Tarabrin would also score the winning goal in the fifth round of the shootout. Chiefs goaltender Peter Aubry made 36 saves for his 19th win of the season.

GAME #63 (3/9/03) JOHNSTOWN 5 –Atlantic City 1
Tarabrin Two Goals, Assist

Dmitri Tarabrin had two goals and an assist to lead the Johnstown Chiefs to a 5-1 win over the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies, Sunday afternoon at the War Memorial. Vladimir Nemec, Sam St. Pierre and Dominic Forget also scored for the Chiefs. Luke Curtin scored for the Boardwalk Bullies, when he took a shot that deflected off Chiefs defenseman Ian Manzano's foot and past Chiefs goaltender Peter Aubry. Aubry made 25 saves for his 20th win of the season, while Bullies goaltender Matt Yeats made 26 saves in the defeat.

The Chiefs travel to Cincinnati (29-24-6; 64 PTS, 5th NE div.) on Tuesday night for a key Northwest division match-up. The Chiefs are 0-4-1 against the Cyclones this season and 0-2-0 at the U.S. Bank Arena. The Cyclones have been on a skid lately, losing three straight games and are 3-5-2 in their last ten games. The Cyclones lead the Chiefs by five points for fourth place in the division. The Cyclones have four games in hand on the Chiefs. This is the first of three games between the two teams this month.

The Chiefs will face the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies (36-14-12; 84 PTS, 1st NE. div.) for the fourth and final time this season Friday night at the War Memorial. The Chiefs are 1-1-1 against the Bullies this season. The Boardwalk Bullies are the top road team in the ECHL (13-8-7). They are currently in 1st place in the Northeast division, leading second place Greensboro by seven points.

Saturday night, the Chiefs and the Trenton Titans (33-20-9; 75 PTS, 4th NE div.) will square off for the fifth and final time this season. The Chiefs are 2-2-0 against the Titans this season. The Titans are currently in fourth place in the Northeast division and are 6-3-1 in their last ten games.
