Men O' War Reclaim Third in Northwest Division

Lexington, KY-The Men O' War finished this week 1-2-0. Lexington's week got off to a rough start when the Cincinnati Cyclones shutout the MOW 4-0 in Cincinnati on Wednesday. The Men recovered to split a weekend series with the Arkansas Riverblades at Rupp Arena. After falling 4-3 on Friday, the Men downed the R-Blades 4-3 in a shootout on Sunday.

Wednesday, March 5th–Lexington 0 at Cincinnati 4

The battle for third place in the Northwest Division took a new turn Wednesday night with Lexington falling 4-0 at U.S. Bank Arena. Gregg Naumenko made 43 saves for the Cyclones shutting out Lexington for the sixth time this year. Cincinnati's Joe Cardarelli scored a goal and assisted on another helping Cincinnati regain a one-point lead over Lexington for third place in the division. Lexington's power play was a dismal 0-9 on the evening, pushing the Men's winless streak to four straight on the road.

Friday, March 7th-Arkansas 4 at Lexington 3

The Lexington Men O' War fell to the Arkansas Riverblades 4-3 on Friday night. Riverblades goaltender Scott Fankhouser stopped 34 of 37 Lexington shots for his 15th win of the season. Riverblades' forward Mike Cirillo notched two goals helping the Blades to their 30th win of the year. Alex Mathieu, Brett Draney and Ben Storey scored for the MOW in the loss. Story' s third period power play goal broke the Men O' War out of a 0-27 slump with the man advantage.

Sunday, March 9th –Arkansas 3 at Lexington 4 SO

The Men O' War moved into third place with a 4-3 shootout win against the Arkansas Riverblades. Alex Mathieu scored twice for the MOW to help clinch the win. Mathieu's first period marker was the quickest goal in MOW history coming just 45 seconds into the first period. Goaltender Dan Murphy stopped 34 of 37 Arkansas shots for his 17th win of the season. Ben Storey scored the other Men O' War regulation goal.

UPCOMING GAMES ......

The Men are gearing up for three home games in three nights this weekend. With the playoff race heating up, the Men face Northwest Division rivals in all three games. The weekend starts with the Cincinnati Cyclones on Friday. The Men and ‘Clones will continue fighting for third place in the Northwest.

The Men hold third to begin the week, but the ‘Clones will have a chance to overtake Lexington on Tuesday when they host Johnstown. On the season, the Men are 2-4-1 vs. Cincinnati, but the Men have won two of three games at Rupp Arena. The Wheeling Nailers will visit Rupp Arena on Saturday and Sunday. The Men have won both meetings with the Nailers at Rupp this season.

Playoff Picture

The Toledo Storm and Peoria Rivermen have both clinched spots in the Northwest Division playoffs. The MOW and the Cincinnati Cyclones hold the remaining two spots as the season continues its final month. Johnstown is hot on the heels of the MOW and ‘Clones. Lexington's magic number (a combination of MOW points plus Johnstown's missed points) to clinch a playoff spot is 13. Cincinnati's magic number to clinch a playoff spot is 14. The Men have 9 games left (4 at home and 5 on the road). The ‘Clones have 13 games remaining (6 at home and 7 on the road). J-town has 9 games left (5 at home and 4 on the road).
