Anchorage Climbs out of Cellar at Long Last

Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska â Yvan Corbin registered a natural hat trick in the second period as Anchorage completed a three-game sweep of Long Beach by a score of 6-1 Sunday evening in front of 3,002 at Sullivan Arena.
Long Beach had its fair share of quality scoring chances in the first period, but Kimbi Daniels put the Aces on the board first for the third straight game with a power play goal at 12:10, assisted by Corbin and Paul Williams. Daniels struck again 15 seconds into the middle frame, and the rout was on. Corbin notched his 40th goal of the year at 6:53, then increased the bulge to 4-0 nine minutes later with Anchorage on another power play. He roofed his third of the night (and league-leading 42nd of the season), completing the hat trick, over Long Beach goaltender Danielle Dube with 23.7 seconds left in the second period.
With a five-goal spread at their backs, their largest lead of the entire season, the Aces coasted through the final period, pushing the score to 6-0 when Dean Larson streaked in on a breakaway and tucked a backhander past Dube at 9:19. Ryan Person's bid for his first professional shutout ended with less than 10 minutes remaining for the second straight night, as Denis Ladouceur rammed home a rebound with 3:31 showing on the clock. Anchorage's margin of victory was its largest since a 7-1 pummeling of Fresno November 24, 2001. The Aces had been in last place since October of that year, when a 2-1 start was followed by an 11-game winless skid. Anchorage, now 6-2-1 since Perry Florio assumed the head coaching reins February 20, outshot Long Beach 37-22 Sunday and 100-54 in the three-game sweep, while outscoring the Ice Dogs by a count of 17-5.
The Aces, 18-41-3 overall (one point ahead of Long Beach), will take Monday off and resume practice Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in preparation for their final two home games of the season, as second-place San Diego visits Alaska next Friday and Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. All games are broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM and at www.anchorageaces.com, with Jack Michaels calling the play-by-play. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off, presented by GCI.
