Greensboro Generals News Release

UPCOMING WEEK: The Greensboro Generals continue their franchise long eight game road trip with the southeast division portion of their tour this week and early into next week. Generals head coach Rick Adduono makes his first trip back to Charleston, South Carolina to face his former club tomorrow night at 7:00 when the Generals battle the South Carolina Stingrays. Adduono was with the Stingray organization for seven years prior to joining the Generals this season, serving as their head coach for the previous four seasons. Greensboro is 2-0-0 against South Carolina this year, winning games in a shootout and in overtime earlier this season. The Generals then have a pair of games in Florence, South Carolina to tangle with the Pee Dee Pride this Friday and Saturday at 7:30. The two teams split a pair of games in Greensboro early in the season. Despite being only three hours away, these games will mark the first time Greensboro has played at Pee Dee since January 12, 2001. The road trip marches on with games in Florida against the Everblades next Monday and Tuesday at 7:30. All games this season can be heard on WPET AM-950 and online at www.greensborogenerals.com.

LAST WEEK:

3/3 CINCINNATI 3, GREENSBORO 4 ¨ This game appeared to be a rout in the Generals favor, but Greensboro found themselves hanging on in the final seconds to earn the victory over the Cyclones. Generals' captain Jay Murphy opened the scoring in the first period. The Generals then blew the game wide open in the second period. Mark Turner brought the lead to 2-0, then a pair of defensemen got involved, with Rod Aldoff and Kurt Drummond scoring to give Greensboro a commanding 4-0 lead entering the third period. Greensboro allowed a pair of goals in the opening two minutes of the third period, and the margin went to 4-3 with 39 seconds left in the game, but Daniel Berthiaume was able to earn the victory with a 40-save performance.

3/4 GREENSBORO 1, TRENTON 3 ¨ Greensboro couldn't muster enough offense against the stingy Titans in the first game of their eight game road trip. With Trenton leading 1-0 in the first period, Matt Chandler scored the Generals' only goal of the night on a rebound of a Jay Murphy shot to knot the score at 1-1. The Titans took the lead for good in the second period, and despite several chances for the Generals to tie the game, they held on and added a power play goal with less than three minutes remaining to seal the Generals fate.

3/5 GREENSBORO 4, ATLANTIC CITY 5 (OT) ¨ The Generals dropped a heartbreaker in their bid to move within two points of the first place Boardwalk Bullies. After falling behind 1-0 to Atlantic City, Greensboro retaliated with a goal from Shane Campbell to knot the score. In his first game in a Generals uniform, Mike Bayrack put Greensboro on top before the first intermission, then followed it up with a power play goal for a 3-1 advantage early in the second period. Atlantic City cut the margin to 3-2, only to have Bryan Richardson regain the two goal lead in the Generals favor. Greensboro couldn't hang on, however, allowing a second period goal to the Boardwalk Bullies to make the score 4-3. Atlantic City then tied the game with less than nine minutes left in regulation, and Peter Metcalf won the game for the Boardwalk Bullies at the 2:58 mark of overtime.
