Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release

Allentown, Pennsylvania - A dominant pitching performance from the quartet of Nick Nelson, Connor Brogdon, Jeremy Walker, and Tyler McKay guided the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (62-52, 26-15) past the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (56-60, 24-18) by a final score of 2-1 on Thursday night at Coca-Cola Park.

The Jumbo Shrimp started the scoring just three batters into the game. Xavier Edwards doubled to start the game and one out later Troy Johnston doubled to score him, making it 1-0.

The IronPigs got the only runs they would need in the game in the second. With two outs, Scott Kingery singled before Cal Stevenson then singled to send him to third. Stevenson then stole second before Brandon Marsh stepped in and flared an automatic double down the leftfield line, scoring both runners to give the IronPigs a 2-1 lead they never relinquished.

Nick Nelson (6-2) collected the win for the IronPigs with a second straight Quality Start. Nelson went six innings, allowing just one run on six hits and two walks, striking out three. Nelson was followed by Brogdon who worked a scoreless seventh and then Walker who pitched the eighth, 1-2-3. McKay (S, 2) retired the side in order in the ninth, striking out the final hitter of the game.
