Worcester, MA - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders beat the Worcester Red Sox 2-1 on Thursday night. Andres Chaparro launched his career-high 21st home run of the season.

Chaparro struck first with a solo shot 396 feet to left field in the first.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre would hold onto their 1-0 lead until the eighth inning. Ceddonne Rafaela smoked a tying home run to right center field.

The RailRiders countered in the top of the ninth. Jamie Westbrook doubled and Rodolfo Duran singled to push a runner into scoring position. Then, Michael Hermosillo laced one up the middle to send Westbrook home. SWB took a 2-1 advantage.

Mitch Spence was electric in his start, throwing six innings of shutout ball. Michael Gomez had a quiet outing first out of the bullpen. Anthony Misiewicz (W, 1-1) gave up a home run in his inning and a third. Zach Greene (S, 1) slammed the door shut in the ninth.

Brandon Walter got the start for Worcester allowing one run five innings of work. Andrews Nunez and Cam Booser worked scoreless frames. AJ Politi let up the go-ahead run in the ninth.

The RailRiders take on the WooSox Friday night at 6:45PM on the road.
