Chasers Drop Rain-Delayed Affair in Toledo

Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
TOLEDO, OHIO - A two-run homer in the ninth inning from Jose Briceño was a matter of too little, too late as the Omaha Storm Chasers dropped a rain-delayed game to the Toledo Mud Hens, 4-2.
After allowing a two-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the first, Omaha starter Anthony Veneziano settled into a groove and held Toledo to just those two runs across the game's first five innings. A pair of hits to open the bottom of the sixth scored the Mud Hens' third run of the game, but Veneziano recovered with a pair of outs before a one out and 11 minute rain delay.
Walter Pennington got the final out of the sixth inning and stranded a pair of runners on after the delay, but allowed an unearned run to cross in the seventh inning, at the time putting Toledo up 4-0.
Collin Snider followed Pennington with 1.1 scoreless innings, retiring four of five batters faced, but the Chasers were still held scoreless into the ninth inning offensively.
Omaha managed just five hits over the game's first eight innings offensively, held to nothing but singles and a trio of walks.
Down to the last out, José Briceño clobbered a two-run homer down the left left field to cut the deficit in half and prevent a shutout loss, but that was the extent of Omaha's run scoring in the game.
Nate Eaton collected the lone multi-hit effort for the Storm Chasers in the 4-2 loss, a pair of singles, while Bubba Thompson and Edward Olivares each reached twice with a single and walk.
Omaha returns to action Friday at 6:05 p.m. CT with right-hander Jonathan Bowlan on the mound.
