August 18, 2025 - BASEBALL Carolina League: The Salem (VA) Red Sox of the Single-A Carolina League have selected the team's new name that will be revealed in the fall after the 2025 season. There has been a local effort to rename the team the Salem Hellbenders after a giant Appalachian salamander found in Southwest Virginia. Despite the new name, the team will remain an affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. August 17, 2025 - HARRISON, N.J. - The Houston Dash extended their unbeaten streak to three games with a 2-1 win over NJ/NY Gotham FC at Sports Illustrated Stadium, led by forward Michelle Alozie's game-winning goal in the 93rd minute. Houston has now won back-to-back games and earned seven points from their last three outings. The team currently leads the league with 11 points won from a deficit. August 17, 2025 - TORONTO, ON - It was a resilient performance from Vancouver Rise FC, as they pulled off a huge 1-0 road win over AFC Toronto in Toronto after going down to 10 players in the first half. Both sides began the match testing the waters early, with AFC Toronto's Kaylee Hunter and Rise FC's Jessica De Filippo warming the gloves of their respective 'keepers.
