Las Vegas Wranglers News Release
Las Vegas, NV- The Las Vegas Wranglers announced today the signing of defensemen Jason McBain and Mike McBain. The brothers are the first two players to sign in team history. The two combine for 15 years of playing experience, including 73 games in the National Hockey League.
"The acquisition of Mike and Jason McBain helps us solidify our defense and leadership in the locker room," said Wranglers' General Manager and Head Coach Glen Gulutzan. "We will continue to build out from our defensive end."
Jason McBain is entering his 10th season in professional hockey. McBain, 29, was drafted by the Hartford Whalers (Carolina Hurricanes) in Round 4 (#81 Overall) in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft. From 1995-97 the elder McBain played in 9 games for the NHL's Hartford Whalers. In 583 games, the 6-foot-3 defenseman has posted 80 goals, 232 assists, 312 points, and 483 penalty minutes. McBain is starting his second stint in Las Vegas. During 1998-99 the 210-pound blue liner posted nine goals, 37 assists, 46 points in 65 games. McBain has been on two championship teams. His first title came in 1998-99 with the AHL's Providence Bruins. His second championship was with the WCHL's Fresno Falcons in 2001-02.
"I'm happy to be back in Las Vegas. I always enjoyed playing here before and I'm excited to be able to come back to this town where I can be with my family," said Jason McBain. "Being able to play with Mike is just an added bonus."
Mike McBain was drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning in Round 2 (#30 Overall) in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. The 26-year old defenseman played in 64 games for the Lighting from 1997-99 posting seven assists and 22 penalty minutes. The younger McBain has played in 343 games posting 16 goals, 63 assists, 79 points, and 210 penalty minutes.
"It's exciting for me. My brother and I have been talking about playing here for a while. He played here and loved it. It's a great city and a great arena," said Mike McBain. "I'm looking forward to getting the season started and winning some games."
