Florida Everblades News Release
Estero, FL - The Florida Everblades President/GM Craig Brush announced today the Everblades have acquired the rights of forward Stuart Pietersma and signed defenseman Ian Forbes for the 2003-04 season.
Pietersma (6'2 230 lbs.) led the ECHL last season with 32 major penalties. He saw action in 55 games with the Mississippi Sea Wolves (ECHL) and racked up 275 penalty minutes. He also registered 19 penalty minutes in 3 games with the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL) last season. The 22 year old Fort Saskatchewan, SASK native also notched 383 penalty minutes during his 2000-01 junior season playing for the Fort Saskatchewan Traders (AJHL).
Forbes (6'6" 220 lbs.) saw action in 32 games in the ECHL last season with the Trenton Titans. He spent a good portion of the 2002-03 season in Philadelphia playing in 20 games with the Philadelphia Phantoms of the American Hockey League. The Brampton, Ontario native was drafted in the second round (# 51 overall) of the 1998 NHL entry draft by the Philadelphia Flyers. The 24 year old blueliner picked up 160 PIM's in 52 games last season. "Stu led the league last season in majors and held his own the past few weeks in Lowell's training camp in a few fights up there so I think he is what we were looking for this season in terms of a tough presence. Both of these guys are big strong players and will have an impact on our roster immediately, "stated Everblades Assistant Coach Terry Lindgren.
