Mississippi Makes Three Trades

BILOXI, Miss. – Mississippi Sea Wolves coach and director of hockey operations Bob Woods announced three separate trades on Wednesday. Right wing Stu Pietersma (PEET-uhrs-mah) has been dealt to the Florida Everblades for futures, center Alex Kim was sent to the Peoria Rivermen for futures and left wing Anthony Battaglia (bah-TAHG-lee-ah) was acquired from Florida to complete the Pietersma trade.

Pietersma, 22, led the ECHL with 32 major penalties. The 6-foot-2, 225-pound native of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta scored five goals and added six assists for 11 points in 55 games with Mississippi, to go along with 275 penalty minutes. Pietersma joined the Sea Wolves last year, after being acquired off waivers from the Wheeling Nailers on October 21, 2002.

Kim, 24, was acquired in a trade with the Reading Royals on August 11 with Tom Rouleau for Kent Davyduke. Last season with Reading, the 5-foot-11, 195-pound native of Fullerton, California scored 22 goals and picked up 24 assists for 46 points while appearing in 61 games. He also accumulated 71 penalty minutes.

Battaglia, 24, scored six goals and collected seven assists for 13 points, while accumulating 26 penalty minutes with Florida in 48 games. The 6-foot, 195-pound native of Chicago, Illinois also appeared in four games with Lowell of the American Hockey League. Battaglia enters his second season of pro hockey.

Mississippi begins training camp on Monday, with a practice open for the public at 10 a.m. at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum in Biloxi.

The Sea Wolves season and home opener is Friday, October 17 at the Wolves Den against their archrivals, the Louisiana IceGators.
