Utah Grizzlies News Release

In a Nutshell

Utah returns home to open a seven-game home stand Wednesday versus Long Beach. The home stand includes Friday and Saturday games each weekend for the rest of January.

He Cooks, He Cleans, He Plays Defense

With Utah still playing shorthanded defensively, forward Trevor Baker has dropped back to the blueline over the last several games. *If it means for me to block a shot, assist on the penalty-kill, or just be a tenth forward on the bench; whatever it takes for the team to win.* said Baker, December 30, 2005 on Grizzlies Radio. He has since added playing defense to his game.

Who Here Can Skate Backwards?

Since the fourth game of the regular season, the Grizzlies have been playing shorthanded defensively. Utah played this weekend without Tom Reimann, Treavor Peterson and James Laux. On Saturday versus San Diego, Ian Forbes left injured and missed Sunday's game. The Grizzlies have lost 52 player games to injury this season just to defensemen alone. (Lou Dimasi 27 games lost, James Laux 18, Tom Reimann 3, Trevor Peterson 3, Ian Forbes 1.)

Louis Dumont's Latest ECHL Record

Louis Dumont scored his 850th ECHL point Friday in Stockton. Dumont had a three-point evening (three assists) and #850 came at 18:33 of the first period as he picked up the second assist on D.J. Jelitto's goal, giving Utah a 1-0 lead. Dumont remains the league's all-time leading scorer with 852 points.

Isn't That Justin Eddy Again?

Justin Eddy played all three games this weekend for Utah with Alfie Michaud on IR. It marks the third time this season a Utah netminder has played three-games-in-three-nights. All games have been played on the road.

November 11-November 13: Alfie Michaud (3-0-0)

December 2-December 4: Alfie Michaud (2-0-1)

January 6-January 8: Justin Eddy (1-2-0)

I'll Call Tamio

This weekend, and six prior games this season, Tamio Stehrenberger joined the Grizzlies as an emergency backup goaltender. The BYU product went 38-10-5 over the last two years in Provo. Stehrenberger also holds regular job in Salt Lake City and is allowed to leave whenever the Grizzlies need help between the pipes. Utah is 7-2 when Stehrenberger is in uniform this year, though he has not played at all.

Welcome Back, Welcome Back, Welcome Back!

Jeff Miles rejoined the Utah Grizzlies Friday after three games centering the fourth line for the AHL's Milwaukee Admirals. In 31 games this season with Utah, Miles has scored 13 goals and tallied 18 assists for 31 points.

Power-Play Keeps On Rollin'

With an Ed Hill power-play goal at 9:02 of the third period Saturday, Utah avoided going two games without a power-play goal for the first time this season. The Grizzlies are currently fifth in the ECHL, converting on 22 percent (35/207) of their power-plays.

Team Season-High Stands At 9

Ryan Kinasewich had a team-high nine-game point streak (nine goals, 12 assists) snapped in Saturday's 6-2 loss to San Diego.
