Phoenix RoadRunners News Release

Phoenix, Ariz. - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL have acquired rookie defenseman Chet Fereirra from the San Diego Gulls in exchange for forward Mark Wires.

Fereirra, 24, tallied one goal and six points and added 30 penalty minutes in 25 games with San Diego. He led all Gulls defensemen and was tied for second overall on the club with a plus-eight rating. The Wilmington, Mass. native played four seasons of college hockey at Curry College in Milton, Mass. and finished with 31 goals and 115 points in 107 career games. Fereirra served as an Assistant Captain during his senior season and guided the Colonels to their second straight NCAA Tournament appearance after capturing the 2005 ECAC Northeast Regular Season Championship and the 2005 ECAC Northeast Tournament Championship.

"Chet is a tough competitor who plays the game hard," said RoadRunners General Manager and Head Coach Ron Filion. "We've been looking to improve our defense now for quite some time, and feel very fortunate that Chet became available when he did. He'll make a great addition to our hockey club."

Wires tallied three goals and eight points in 17 games with the RoadRunners after being signed off of waivers from Trenton on November 29.

The RoadRunners continue their four-game homestand at 7:11PM Tuesday against the Alaska Aces at US Airways Center. It's the first of three consecutive home games against the Aces. For more information or to order tickets, call (602) 462-GOAL or purchase online at www.ticketmaster.com.
