Utah Grizzlies News Release

Long Beach, California- The Long Beach Ice Dogs used four second period goals to top the Utah Grizzlies 6-2 in the first of four straight meetings between the teams.

Justin Eddy was tested for Utah in the first period as the Ice Dogs put 13 shots on net, while the Grizzlies offence only mustered 3 shots on Long Beach netminder Jaroslav Halak and the score remained 0-0 after twenty minutes.

Long Beach got off to a quick start in the second, when Steve Villeneuve sent the puck through traffic and past Eddy to make it 1-0. Just 59 seconds later, Sean McAslan picked up a goal, with the assist going to Cory Urquhart. The Ice Dogs struck again at 10:27; this time it was Mac Faulkner from Blake Robson and Justin Aikens to increase the lead to 3-0. McAsland added another goal at 15:29, assisted by Ash Goldie. The Grizzlies cut the lead to three goals when Colt King converted a Travis Rycroft rebound at 19:30 of the period.

The Ice Dogs increased their lead 1:28 into the third period when Christian Larrivee scored on the power play. Utah cut the lead again when D.J. Jelitto scored an unassisted goal, but that was all the offence the Grizzlies would come up with despite 14 shots in the final frame. Michael Woodform added a shorthanded empty net goal in the final few minutes to make the final 6-2 Ice Dogs.

The Grizzlies have an opportunity for revenge on Wednesday, January 11, as Long Beach visits the E-Center for the first time this season. Face off is 7:05 p.m.
