Hats Off For Gajic
January 9, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release
Caps for Gajic! Milan Gajic posted his first professional hat trick to lead the Gladiators past the Pensacola Ice Pilots 6-2 Friday night. Gajic becomes the third Gladiator to post three or more goals in a game joining Pascal Pelletier, who had four, and Brad Schell. Gajic's hat trick is the Gladiators first road hat trick of the season. Jeff Campbell was the last Gladiator to post three goals in a road game as he accomplished the feat in a 6-4 win at South Carolina on February 4th of last season.
A first for Fields: Gladiators netminder Sean Fields recorded his first point of the season picking up an assist in Friday's 6-2 win over the Pensacola Ice Pilots. He becomes the second netminder this season on the Gladiators to record a point as Adam Berkhoel had a helper in Gwinnett's 4-3 loss to the Augusta Lynx on December 20th. For Fields, it was his first professional assist as he did not pick up a point last year for the Gladiators in 31 games between the pipes.
We don't need no stinkin' power play! The Gladiators recorded their first win of the season when not scoring a power play goal in a game in Friday's 6-2 win over the Pensacola Ice Pilots. Gwinnett entered Friday's game 0-1-4 when not scoring a power play goal. The Gladiators then followed that up with another win without scoring a power play goal in a 6-3 victory over the Columbia on Saturday night
Back from the A! Defenseman Jon Awe was assigned to the Gladiators from the Portland Pirates of the AHL on Friday and he made an immediate impact in his first game back. He posted an assist for Gwinnett on Milan Gajic's game winning goal early in the third period and finished with two helpers in the win. He appeared in 17 AHL games while in Portland picking up a lone helper.
Gone to the A! Brad Schell becomes the 8th player called up to the American Hockey League this season from the Gladiators. For Schell it is his first call up to the American Hockey League as he was recalled to the Chicago Wolves of the AHL on Saturday. He picked up a goal in the Wolves 6-3 win over Ak-sar-ben on Sunday. Schell has posted 29 points this season with the Gladiators in 27 games.
Seven in a Row! Defenseman Troy Milam chipped in an assist for the Gladiators in Sunday's 5-2 loss at Augusta. It was the seventh consecutive game that the Lake Orion, Michigan native recorded at least one assist for the Gladiators. At seven consecutive games, Milam has tied the team season record at seven games with at least one assist originally set by Jeff Campbell.
Sgt. Slaughter! Wrestling Hall of Famer Sgt. Slaughter will be making an appearance at the Gladiators game on Friday, January 13th when the Greenville Grrrowl visit the Arena at Gwinnett Center. Sgt. Slaugher's appearance is being presented by B98.5FM and Charter Communications.
Teddy Bear Toss! Saturday, January 14th is the Gladiators 3rd annual Teddy Bear Toss to benefit local children's charities. Fans are encouraged to bring a teddy bear to the game and toss it onto the ice following the Gladiators first goal as Gwinnett hosts Charlotte. Teddy Bear Toss night is presented by Star 94 FM, Charter Communications, The AJC Gwinnett News, The Brand Bank Co., Monarchcomputer.com and Kia Mall of Georgia.

Jeff Campbell had two goals for the Gladiators while Jon Awe, in his first game back with Gwinnett after being assigned from AHL Portland, Troy Milam and Scott Kelman each had two assists in the win. Sean Fields posted his first helper of the season for Gwinnett while making 30 saves in the win. January 8th, Augusta 5, Gladiators 2 - L

Scott Kelman had the game's first goal on the power play 1:15 into the first period. Augusta scored the next three goals and never trailed again in the contest. Gajic's goal came late in the second on the power play off a feed from Steve Slaton to cut the lead to one but Gwinnett could get no closer. Augusta scored twice in the third to put the game away.
