Cincinnati Cyclones News Release

TRENTON, New Jersey - A pair of third period goals by Eric Castonguay and Chris Poli, allowed Trenton to rally for a 2-1 win over the Cincinnati Cyclones on Saturday night. The win ends Cincinnati's regular season with a 55-12-5 record.

The Cyclones opened the scoring just 21 seconds into the contest. Forward Mathieu Aubin snapped off a shot from the high slot-his 30th of the season off a faceoff from Scott Reynolds and David Desharnais. It was the only score of the period, despite Trenton outshooting Cincinnati, 9-7.

The second period had no scoring, with the Cyclones using a suffocating defensive effort-limiting Trenton to just three shots on goal.

Trenton got its third period goals 69 seconds apart from Castonguay and Poli in claiming its 29th win of the season. Jason Smith stopped 24 shots in posting his third win versus Cincinnati this season-the most by any goaltender.

The Cincinnati Cyclones are 43 games above .500, with a 55-12-5 record and sole possession of first place in the North Division-26 points ahead of second place Elmira. The loss gives Cincinnati a 39-6-3 record since December 15. Trenton is 29-36-7. The 55 wins are the most ever by the club and the most ever by a pro hockey team in Cincinnati.

Rookie David Desharnais finished the season with 106 points (29-77-106), the first Cyclones player to ever win the ECHL scoring title. Defenseman Chad Starling finished the campaign +48, taking the circuit's top spot in plus/minus ratio.

By winning the North Division, the Cyclones have a bye in the play-in round of the ECHL postseason and will host the winner of the fourth seed-fifth seed, best-of-three series at the end of the regular season. Johnstown and Dayton will play in that series, only the final positions and home ice between the teams is still to be determined. The first game of the best-of-seven series that the Cyclones will play, opens at U.S. Bank Arena on Friday, April 11 at 7:30pm. The second contest (Game 'B' will be played the next night-Saturday, April 12).

The Cyclones close out the regular season Saturday night at Trenton. The game will be carried on 96 Rock, as well as at www.cycloneshockey.com. The pregame show airs at 6:30pm, with face off at 7pm.
