April 5, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Fresno Falcons News Release
Boise, Idaho - The Fresno Falcons ended their 2007-08 regular season with a 2-1 loss to the Idaho Steelheads on Saturday at Qwest Arena.
One night after Idaho scored four first-period goals, and out-shot Fresno 20-0 in the opening period, neither team got on the board in the first 20 minutes, with Idaho out-shooting Fresno 9-4.
The Falcons carried the play for most of the second period, out-shooting the Steelheads 12-7, but the game remained scoreless through 40 minutes.
Idaho had a chance to get on the board 4:06 into the third period as Taggart Desmet was awarded a penalty shot, but Jake Moreland stopped the shot to keep the game scoreless.
The Steelheads did get on the board at 7:11. Mark Bomersback found Desmet alone at the top of the crease and he beat Moreland high off his backhand for his 29th goal of the season to give Idaho a 1-0 lead.
Fresno pulled even with a power-play goal at 10:44. Kenny Bernard's shot was stopped by Idaho goaltender Matt Zaba, but Matt O'Dette was able to push the rebound home for his seventh goal of the season, and his fourth in the last four games.
Bombersback put the Steelheads back on top with his 20th goal of the season at 16:59. Moreland made the save on the initial shot from Desmet, but Bomersback gathered in the loose puck at the top of the crease and swept it past Moreland giving Idaho a 2-1 edge.
The Falcons pulled Moreland for an extra attacker in the final minute, and ended up with a 6-on-4 advantage for the final 48 seconds following an Idaho power play. Josh Prudden had an opportunity to tie the game, but his shot rang off the goal post, and the Steelheads held on for the win.
