Elmira Jackals News Release

ELMIRA, NY - Maxime Boisclair recorded a club record five points and rookie defenseman Elgin Reid scored twice to lead the Elmira Jackals to a 6-1 win over the Wheeling Nailers in the regular season finale for both clubs Saturday night at First Arena in front of 4,104 fans, the 14th sellout crowd of the year.

The win snapped the Jackals overall two-game losing streak and was their first win in their last three games on home ice. Elmira hosts Reading in their best-of-seven North Division semifinal series opener Friday night.

It took the offense awhile to get cooking coming off of last night's 3-1 loss in Trenton, but the Jackals delivered quick punches to the last place Nailers in the first two periods to leave little doubt in this one.

Elmira's first power play need just eight seconds to cash in when Reid wired a drive from the high slot past a screened Ryan Scott (33 saves) at 15:39 for his second goal of the year on feeds from Boisclair and Trevor Hendrikx.

It was a 2-0 game just forty-four seconds later as Brett Pilkington tapped in a back door feed past a helpless Scott at 16:23. For Pilkington, it was his eighth of the year and first in 18 games as he was set up by Boisclair and Matt Gens.

Again taking time to warm up the offense, the Jackals extended their lead to 3-0 midway through the second period. Luke Fulghum, appearing in his first contest since February 23rd (mononucleosis), lifted in a Hendrikx point blast rebound at 10:46 for his 15th of the season.

Topher Scott then spotted Bobby Robins cutting hard to the net and threw a hard pass to the deep slot. Robins ramped in his 18th of the year just twenty-four seconds after the Fulghum strike to push the Jackals advantage to 4-0 at 11:10.

Boisclair closed out the second period barrage when he tipped a Hendrikx drive past Scott with 5:10 to go in the second period. The power play goal came just seven seconds after Matt Byrnes was excused for hooking.

The Jackals took their largest lead of the game at 6-0 when Reid gathered in a Benoit Doucet rebound in the right circle and flipped it into a wide open net with 4:17 to go in the game. For Doucet, it was team-leading 52nd assist and 83rd point while Boisclair also assisted to set a new Jackals standard for points in a game with his fifth of the night.

The only suspense left in this one was if Joel Martin (23 saves) would pick up his third shutout of the season and that question was answered with 3:48 to go in the game.

Matt Dias slid a pass between a pair of Jackals defenders to Sean Collins breaking down the slot. Collins never appeared to settle the wobbly pass, but pulled the trigger and beat Martin between the pads for his 15th goal of the season and team-leading 56th point.

Elmira outshot Wheeling 39-24 while going 2-for-3 on the power play and holding the Nailers scoreless in five power play chances.
