
Toivonen returns to Providence

The Providence Bruins announced today that rookie goaltender Hannu Toivonen has returned to the team from the World Junior Championships in his native Finland, where he led the Finnish Junior Team to the Bronze Medal. Toivonen will be with the team when it plays its next game, on Saturday night at Springfield at 7:35 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on WDDZ AM-550.
Toivonen, a 19-year-old native of Kalvola, Finland, stopped 16 shots against the Czech Republic on Monday, leading Finland to a 2-1 victory and the Bronze Medal. He was 4-2-0 in six games, with a 1.85 GAA and .920 save percentage, including one shutout.
Toivonen is in his first North American professional season. He is 8-5-2 in 16 games with Providence, with a 2.22 GAA and .924 save percentage, and one shutout. Toivonen was the Boston Bruins' first pick, 29th overall, in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
After concluding their three-game road trip on Saturday, the Bruins will return home to host the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Friday, January 16 at 7:05 p.m.
