CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Barons announced goaltender Nolan Schaefer was reassigned to the Barons from San Jose, goaltender Chris Houle was recalled from Trenton (ECHL), and defenseman Dan Watson was reassigned to Columbus (UHL). Wayne Thomas, General Manager of the Barons, made the announcement.

Schaefer and Houle will be the Barons goaltending tandem due to the injuries to Seamus Kotyk and Dimitri Patzold. Kotyk and Patzold will be inactive this weekend.

After being reassigned to Fresno (ECHL) on January 1st, Schaefer was recalled by the San Jose Sharks on January 5th. The Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan native dressed for the Sharks on January 5th against Vancouver but did not appear in the game. In two games with the Barons earlier this season, Schaefer was 2-0 with a 1.50 goals against average and a .957 save percentage. With Fresno, Schaefer posted a 5-5 record with a 3.12 GAA and a .910 save percentage in 12 games.

The Barons also recalled goaltender Chris Houle from Trenton. Houle has spent time with Philadelphia (AHL) on four different occasions this season. Appearing in only one game, Houle stopped all 14 shots in a relief appearance. A first year professional, the 6'3", 197-pound netminder was named to the Eastern Conference team for the 2004 ECHL All-Star Game. In 8 games, Houle posted a 5-3 record with a 1.64 GAA, a .949 save percentage, and 2 shutouts.

In addition to the moves at goaltender, defenseman Dan Watson was reassigned to Columbus. Finishing his second stint with the Barons this season, Watson has played in 9 games recording 1 assist and 4 penalty minutes in Cleveland.

The Barons, amidst a six-game, 14-day road trip, will travel to Hamilton on Friday to battle the Western Conference leading Bulldogs. Following Friday night's contest, the Barons will travel to Grand Rapids to play the Griffins who are in first place of the West Division. The Barons own a 8-4-3-2 record on the road this season.
