Manitoba Moose News Release
Today the AHL announced that Moose defenceman Jaroslav Obsut has been named to the PlanetUSA AHL All-Star team for the 2004 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic to be held Febuary 8th & 9th, 2004 at the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, MI.
Obsut is fourth in Moose scoring this season with eight goals and 12 assists for 20 points in 35 games. That ranks him fourth in league scoring amongst defencemen. His three power play goals are tied for second in the league among blueliners. He has accumulated 38 PIM this season. In his two recalls to the NHL's Vancouver Canucks this season, Obsut failed to see any action.
The 27-year old was named co-winner of the team's season-ending community service award in 2002-03. Last year, he played in 60 games with the Moose scoring six goals and 13 assists to go along with 59 PIM. He appeared in all 14 playoff games, recording four assists.
The native of Presov, Slovakia has played in seven NHL games in his career with the St. Louis Blues and Colorado Avalanche, recording two penalty minutes. In his career with the Moose, which includes a short stint in 1998-99, he has 14 goals and 25 assists for 39 points and 95 penalty minutes in 97 games played. In his American Hockey League career, he has 28 goals and 70 assists for 98 points and 187 penalty minutes in 242 games played. The last NHL action he saw was in 2001-02 with Colorado.
Obsut was signed by Vancouver as a free agent on July 10, 2002. He was originally drafted by the Winnipeg Jets, 188th overall in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft.
The two-part event, which pits the Canadian AHL All-Stars against the PlanetUSA AHL All-Stars, begins Sunday, February 8th with the Pepsi All-Star Skills Competition at 7:00 p.m. The All-Star Game will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 9th and will be televised live in Canada on Rogers Sportsnet.
